We’re set to have an exceptional line-up of speakers who’ll be sharing intel into their future development projects, plans and vision for across the nuclear power sector. Here’s an overview of the confirmed speakers:

Rolls-Royce SMR – Tom Samson, Chief Executive Officer

With the demand for low-carbon power ever rising, Rolls Royce are leading a UK consortium to develop an affordable power plant that can generate electricity using a small modular reactor. The Government have backed the delivery and deployment of small modular reactors, investing £210 million into their development bringing the total investment from both the public and private sector to £450m. In return, it is estimated that the UK SMR programme will return £52 billion of value to the UK economy by 2050 if the full fleet of 16 stations are built.

Sizewell C / EDF Energy – Julia Pyke, Nuclear Development Director of Finance

Sizewell C is projected to meet nearly 7% of the UK’s power demands when complete, enough to power approximately six million homes. The £20bn Suffolk-based power plant is expected to be commenced before 2024, with construction predicted to take between nine and twelve years to complete. Julia joins us to give an update on the development and what to expect heading into the future.

UK Atomic Energy Authority – Paul Methven, STEP Director

Paul lead on the bid to bring the first nuclear fusion power plant in the world to the West of England, potentially creating thousands of jobs in the region. Some £220m of government money is going into a national selection process to find an appropriate site for the prototype fusion plant, which potentially could be operational by 2040. Organisers of bid have said that if successful the project has the potential to secure billions of pounds of investment into the region, with much of the supporting business ‘eco-system’ of the proposed plant being developed over the next two to 10 years. Paul will discuss this scheme and the role that nuclear fusion will play in powering Tomorrow’s Net Zero Britain.

National Nuclear Laboratory – Dr Fiona Rayment, Chief Science & Technology Officer

The National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) play a key role in the UK and abroad by reducing the cost of clean-up and decommissioning, maintaining critical skills and attracting new talent to the industry. Fiona joins us to share insight into the future of the nuclear sector as well has improving utilisation and the integration of nuclear power into our energy systems. We will also hear the NNL’s thoughts on the importance of plant development like Sizewell C and Hinckley C, as well as the potential of small modular reactor technology.

Sellafield Ltd – John Berry, Senior Supply Chain Manager

As the clean-up and development of Sellafield accelerates, John will be able to talk about the long-term ambitions for the site, as well as developments ongoing and upcoming for the region.

Nuclear Industry Association – Dr Tim Stone, Chair

The Nuclear Industry Association is the trade association for the civil nuclear industry in the UK that represents more than 250 companies across the UK’s nuclear supply chain. As chair, Tim is well placed to discuss why nuclear energy is essential to meeting the UK’s future energy needs and how it will be essential in helping us reach Tomorrow’s Net Zero.

Hinkley Point C – Andrew Cockcroft, Senior Manager – Community Relations

Hinkley Point C will play a vital role in tackling the climate change crisis by providing low-carbon electricity to 6 million homes. The surrounding areas will also reap the rewards, with over £1.7 billion already spent on over 1,100 companies across the region. Andrew will be able to share an update on the development of the two new nuclear reactors, alongside how projects are continuing to develop.

Built Environment Networking – Fahmida Nisa, Host & Event Manager

Nisa is a research, marketing and content specialist at Built Environment Networking. She will be hosting a number of the sessions throughout the day, running the day’s proceedings and managing the interaction between our virtual delegates and the speakers.

GE Hitachi is a world leading provider of advanced reactors and nuclear services. It’s latest reactor design, the BWRX300 represents the simplest, yet most innovative BWR design since GE began commercializing nuclear reactors in 1955. As worldwide interest in this SMR continues to grow, it is a timely opportunity for David to provide insights into the future direction of the UK nuclear industry and what’s needed to help achieve the UK’s net zero emissions target.

National Nuclear Laboratory – James Murphy, Chief Strategy Officer

The NNL have recently released a paper looking at the potential for nuclear power to be utilised for other applications such as heating and hydrogen. James will be able to share insight into the paper, and what it means for the utilisation of sustainable energy in developments.

Built Environment Networking – Amanda Griffiths, Director
