Outline plans have been submitted for a hugely ambitious £90m waterfront redevelopment in the centre of the Scottish City of Glasgow. The plans would see the Custom House area transformed into a thriving hotel and leisure quarter.

Artisan Real Estate, who were also behind the New Waverley project in Edinburgh, are behind the development – and we’re excited to be hearing from them about this and other plans at our event in Edinburgh in April.

Detailed plans of the £90m project are set to be submitted later this year, with a completion target for mid-2020 subject to no delays in planning permission. The scheme would deliver a vibrant destination with street-level bars and restaurants alongside a 300 room hotel. Dalata Hotel Group have already agreed a leading deal with Artisan – which would include a bar, restaurant and conference facility at the four-star venue. A 150-room aparthotel is also planned for the adjoining building which would further enhance the area and drive tourists and locals into the waterfront destination. The development area covers 2,700sq m including the historic grade-A listed Custom House and two adjacent buildings straddling the corner of Clyde Street and Dixon Street.

Clive WIlding, Project Director at Artisan, will be presenting further details at our Edinburgh Development Plans Conference in April and he said: ”It’s a hugely significant opportunity to bring Glasgow’s waterfront back into the heart of the city. For too long the Custom House and neighbouring tenements have become forgotten about and have mostly been vacant for the past decade.”
Artisan are now looking to ‘work with partners to create a flagship regeneration project’ which is set to provide a seamless link from the Clyde waterfront to the St Enoch Centre transport hub and Buchanan Street – with a smooth connectivity to the whole city.

A detailed planning application is expected in the spring of 2018 following consultation, with a completion date set for the middle of 2020.
