Scottish housebuilder Springfield Properties have reached a milestone in their ‘Bertha Park’ village – as the first bricks are laid. The £1bn development in one of five huge community villages that Springfield are developing across the region and they’ll be sharing further details of the developments they’re working on at the Edinburgh Development Plans Conference later this month.

The Bertha Park site will see 3,000 new homes being built over a 30-year period, along with a variety of other builds including a primary school, shops, restaurants, medical services, leisure and community facilities. The 333 hectare site will create around 450 jobs through the construction phase and numerous more once the project is completed.

The first phase of building will see 1,000 homes built – which will also include cabling for electric cars as Springfield Properties recently announced their plans to roll it out across all new buildings.

Innes Smith, Chief Executive of Springfield Properties described the occasion as a ‘milestone’ for the site adding: ”Once the foundations are poured and the first blocks are down it doesn’t take long for timber kits to be up and before we know it, the streets will start to take shape. Infrastructure work began on the Bertha Park village in September last year and work has started on the homes overlooking the pond in the first phase, which is already proving popular. Over half the homes released for sale have already been snapped up.”

We’re excited for the Edinburgh Development Plans Conference to hear more about this and the many other projects Springfield are undertaking, whilst we’ll also hear from Artisan Real Estate, Murray Estates, Edinburgh City Council and Sanctuary Group Scotland.
