A £60m development has been given the green light which will provide a new student centre and civic space at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). Preston City Council, who’ll be speaking at our Lancashire Development Plans Conference in March, have authorised planning permission which is another boost for the region.

Designed by Hawkins Brown the project will span 15,000 sq m and is set to be the a flagship design in the Universities estate – and is central to their £200m masterplan. The student centre, which will include a reception area, learning spaces and a wellbeing support centre, will be built across 7,000+ sq m of land – with the additional space being used to create a wide range of community, public, business and student use areas. The scheme will create a relaxed atmosphere with stunning landscaping and an improvement to the public realm in Adelphi Quarter.

Michael Ahern, Chief Operating Officer at the University of Central Lancashire said of the scheme: ”Securing planning approval for the project is fantastic news and we’re extremely grateful to the many people and organisations who came forward to provide us with their views during the consultation process. Their contribution was invaluable and it’s another significant step towards delivering a centre of learning where people of all interests and backgrounds can feel at ease, comfortable in their surroundings and supported in their academic, social and business aspirations.”

Work is set to begin on site in 2019 with the student centre and square completed by the middle of 2020.
