Plans to transform SA1 Waterfront and the centre of the City have taken a major step forward as it looks to create cutting edge digital districts within the heart of Swansea. The Welsh and UK Government have now received an advanced business plan draft, with a view to submit a more formal business case soon once feedback has been received.

It’s another exciting milestone for the south Wales City – and we’ll be hearing more from the Council and major developers at the Swansea Development Plans Conference next month.

The region has been boosted by the £1.3bn City Deal investment the Swansea Bay City Region secured from the UK Government and the project is just one of 11 across the South Wales area set to boost the regional economy by a massive £1.8bn, and creating over 10,000 new jobs in the process.

The scheme would see a digital village and technology quarter in the City centre – with a vibrant area of affordable office for new and growing tech businesses. The area would also be digitalised to ensure state-of-the-art facilities which would be boosted by world-leading internet speed.

We’ll be hearing more details about the future of Swansea by the City & County Council at the Swansea Development Plans Conference, and Councillor Rob Stewart said of the plans: ”Huge progress has been made on the City Deal since we secured the investment, and over 50% of business plans have now been submitted to the UK and Welsh Governments. We expect a joint working agreement for the City Deal to be approved by all four Swansea Bay City Region councils, along with the setting-up of a joint committee that will allow us to access the first part of the City Deal investment from April this year.”

Outside of Swansea other projects – such as a life sciences and well-being village in Llanelli and a creates and digital area in Carmarthen are planned. A marine project to regenerate Pembroke Dock into a base for marine energy developers and more are planned.

Join us at the Swansea Development Plans Conference to hear more about the regional plans.
