Hertfordshire University BDP

The University of Hertfordshire has submitted plans to develop a new School of Physics, Engineering & Computer Science.

The educational institution – who’ll be speaking on our Hertfordshire, Essex & Bedfordshire Economic Growth Conference – is looking to develop the new building at their College Lane Campus in South Hatfield. The 165,000 sq ft project, designed by BDP, will be five-storey’s in height with three separate internal blocks divided by a central T-shaped atrium. [emaillocker id=”71749″]

The University are hoping to aim BREEAM ‘Excellent’ accreditation on the building with a mixed facade of materials including corrugated metal, paying homage to aircraft hangers and the original technical college.

The building has been designed with a view to maximising design for manufacture and assembly principles using a common primary 9m x 9m structural grid across the entire building which facilities a high degree of commonality across elements, reducing the need for ‘special’ panels. BDP is also building services engineer with AECOM providing civil and structural engineering services and Faithful & Gould providing project management and cost consultancy.
