Burnley’s new £1.7m ambulance station adjacent to Burnley General Teaching Hospital has reached completion and is now operational.

Developed by One Partnership  and designed by DLA Freeman White Architects the 5,400 sq ft purpose-built station replaces the previous building on Trafalgar Street and will service the community across Burnley and the surrounding areas.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) has been working with East Lancashire Hospitals Trust and One Partnership, to create the new  station at Briercliffe Road which will help to meet the increasing demand for ‘blue light’ services across the Pennines and Lancashire.

The ambulance station provides a modern resource  that will bring about greater efficiencies for both staff and patients.  The building also has additional welfare space for rest breaks and a training room area to allow staff development and simulation.

Preston-based contractor Eric Wright Special Projects undertook the build of the two-storey station which included the development of vehicle parking and a service yard.

The former ambulance station, located at Dent Row, off Trafalgar Street in Burnley, is now being redeveloped to create a 90-space car parking provision at the new railway station in the town centre.

Speaking about the new ambulance station, One Partnership’s managing director, Christine Winstanley, commented: “The new building will help to meet the needs of the region’s health care system and will enable NWAS to deliver an improved service for its users.’’

“Our delivery partnership will continue to work together to improve healthcare services in the region as well as to forge wider redevelopment and economic opportunities for Burnley town centre.”
