The transformation of the former headquarters of construction giant Carillion into an £11 million high quality co-living development has hit a major milestone by reaching the halfway point, with more than 100 studios now completed.

Six floors with a total of 108 studios have now been unveiled at the 12-storey building where The Studios24 is bringing the new concept of co-living to Wolverhampton for the first time.

The Studios24, at Birch Street, will eventually have 201 en-suite rooms arranged as apartments, with shared facilities including kitchens, working and relaxation areas, a café and bar, gym, laundry and high speed internet.

Around 40 new jobs have been created by the development, which is breathing new life into the dilapidated office building and helping to transform the neglected Westside area of the city.

The Studios24 director Barry Glantz is delighted with the success of the scheme – with almost all of the completed students now occupied – and believes he has proved there is a growing demand for co-living developments outside London.

Barry said: “It’s been a journey to reach this point as no-one else has developed co-living accommodation in the Midlands before, so it’s really great to see the place buzzing with activity and residents enjoying their studios and the rest of the facilities.

“It’s been amazing to watch our dream of bringing co-living to Wolverhampton become an exciting reality. Now, we are at the halfway stage after completing phase two and we are moving on to phase three.

“This will enable is to offer more rooms to people looking for great value high quality accommodation. It’s fantastic to see local people and businesses really embrace the co-living concept – it offers a great lifestyle at a very affordable price.”

Barry is at the forefront of the growth of co-living outside the capital. He is exploring co-living development opportunities in Midlands cities such as Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley and Solihull, and further afield.

Co-living is a form of housing that combines private living space with shared communal facilities and is designed to encourage communal interaction and build community. At The Studios24, residents have their own en-suite studios in apartments of six, with shared kitchen and dining facilities. Rent includes energy bills, cleaning, council tax, superfast broadband, access to a café and bar, and a range of social events for residents and guests.
