Trinity College Dublin have announced a new €60m campus development – made possible by a huge private donation, the largest in the history of the higher education institute. The project will see the development of new buildings focused on increasing the opportunities within science, technology engineering and mathematics – with Trinity College Dublin hoping to provide education for up to 1,800 additional students per annum.

Supported by the large donation from the Higher Education Authority (HEA), as well as the private donation from Glen Dimplex Group Founder Dr Martin Naughton and his wife Carmel, the development will now have enough funds to go ahead – with work expected to begin this year and complete in 2022. The ‘E3 Institute’ as it will be known is focusing on the subjects highlighted about due to the expected skills shortage within these areas as the economy grows and needs for new innovative technologies continues to increase.

Dr Patrick Prendergast, Provost of Trinity College Dublin and a speaker at the Dublin Development Plans Conference in September, said Dr Naughton was investing in Ireland’s young people, adding: ”Irish Universities have benefited enormously from the Naughton’s generosity and their visionary belief in the power of education and research to transform individual lives and to transform the life of a country.”

We’re excited to hear more about the future development and how it’ll feed into further economic growth opportunities for the Republic of Ireland in the future at the Dublin Development Plans Conference
