airport cities digital tech hub edinburgh

An impressive new 150-acre development has been unveiled which will create a thriving aerotropolis around Edinburgh Airport. The development is set to be built on the disused ‘crosswind’ runway – helping to transform the currently derelict site into a vibrant new area.

Crosswind Developments, who’ll be speaking about their plans at the Airport Cities Development Conference, are behind the plans which will bring thousands of new jobs into the Scottish capital, which is likely to attract some of the world’s biggest technology companies to develop a cluster of global firms.

The new development plans will include:

  • Thriving Digital Quarter
  • Offices
  • Commercial Buildings
  • Several Hundred Homes – With An Affordable Homes Focus
  • Leisure Facilities
  • Creation of 3,000 Direct Jobs

‘Crosswind’ is just one of many major new developments set to be created around UK and Ireland airport’s – all of which will be the focus of the Airport Cities Development Conference.

John Watson, Chief Executive of Crosswind Developments, said: “Edinburgh and Scotland should be ideal locations for global technology jobs, but without a dedicated approach to creating the kind of environment technology companies are looking for, it’s much harder to bring that investment here. These companies want modern, state-of-the-art offices, world-class connectivity, ans an environment that is attractive to its workforce with easy access to global connnections. Crosswind is one of the best connected, undeveloped sites in Scotland with immediate access to air, rail and road transport. It will have a focus on the kind of housing, working space and leisure facilities that people demand.”
