Plans have been submitted to the Council for a £3.5m arts and amenity hub at the huge Wirral Waters regeneration site. The plans, put forward by Peel Land and Property who’re set to speak at our Liverpool City Region Development Plans Conference later this year.

Known as Egerton Village the site, which will be situated next to Wirral Metropolitan College, will feature a restaurant and bistro, small independent retail units, artists’ studio, a gallery, managed workspace and a large space designated for public events.

The hub has been designed by OMI Architects after they won a competition. Their winning solution places a collection of modular prefabricated dwelling-like forms around Egerton Square, which would connect the square to the environment beyond. Their design will ‘become a local destination and meeting place’ with views across the River Mersey and Liverpool.

Egerton Village, which will have students from the local college involved in the construction phases as part of their student experience, will be located at Four Bridges – adjacent to the College, the proposed new £6m No 1 Tower Road South office development and the new Maritime Knowledge Hub which all form part of phase one of the Wirral Waters project.

Richard Mawdsley, Director of Development at Peel Land and Property and speaker at the Liverpool City Region Development Plans Conference, said: ”Our plans for Egerton Village focus on providing the facilities which lie at the heart of a thriving community. It’s designed to serve new and existing residents, students and local businesses as well as visitors.”

Nick Berry, Director of designers OMI Architects added: ”The proposals for the Village will create a vibrant place defined by an exciting and diverse range of uses and activities. It’ll provide an opportunity for local businesses to contribute to Peel’s vision for this unique waterside environment and will help put the Wirral on the map as a destination for visitors across the world.”
