The Midlands is thriving – with inward investment at an all time high, and the arrival of projects such as HS2 and events including the Commonwealth Games that trend is only set to continue. To fully maximise the opportunities presenting themselves a collaborative approach will be needed – and that’s why all the key influential figures will gather at this event to connect, meet and drive future growth across the region.

We’ll be discussing the key updates happening across the West, East and Central Midlands regions from those in the know. Our incredible panels will discuss and present their ongoing development plans, revealing exclusive insights and future schemes set to take place across the region. East Midlands Councils – Andrew Pritchard, Director of Policy & Infrastructure

The guru of all things transport and infrastructure related in the East Midlands, Andrew is a senior decision maker in regards to developing the region’s infrastructure delivery programme. Whether it be road, rail or green travel, Transport for East Midlands and East Midlands Council have a hand in hundreds of millions of pounds worth of projects. Andrew will talk about HS2, developing a Midland Mainline that is fit for the 21st Century, the A46 Growth corridor, A5 Growth Corridor and transforming East-West connectivity.

MEPC – Rob Groves, Director

Developer MEPC is advancing phase 2 of the £700m Paradise Birmingham scheme which includes a 17 storey hotel and a 10 storey office building that features a sky bar for panoramic views of the city. They are an important component of Birmingham city centre regeneration and Rob joins the conference to talk about this scheme and MEPC’s other ambitions across the Midlands.

WM5G – Lesley Holt, Accelerator & Communications Director

Lesley leads our three accelerators in the region and communications for West Midlands 5G (WM5G).  WM5G stakeholders represent a broad range of organisations in a variety of sectors and scenarios.  Lesley’s prior private and public sector experience, including with local and combined authorities, central government, and a wide range of private sector organisations, gives a breadth of knowledge across a variety of sectors and range of stakeholders.  Lesley’s background has covered account management, stakeholder engagement and communications, business development and business transformation.  Her key strengths have been in the development of successful relationships with colleagues and clients, establishing credibility and ensuring achievement of shared goals and key benefits – these attributes align well with the aims and ambitions of WM5G.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust – Richard Beeken, Chief Executive

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust has had a lot of recent development: an intensive care unit opened in late 2018 and a new neonatal unit opened in late 2019. Currently they are in the process of building a new £36 million A+E department due to open in 2022. Richard will reveal what the Trust has next in store for future development.

Bradford Estates – Alexander Newport, Managing Director

Bradford Estates have ambitious plans to build a net-zero carbon garden village-style development of 3,000 homes and 1.8 million sq ft of commercial space in Shropshire. This scheme is set to bring vast benefits to the local area including the creation of up to 8,000 jobs and a boost of around £390 million a year to the local economy. Alex will reveal more about the progress of the scheme and how to get involved.

Derby City Council – Rachel North, Director of Communities and Place

Derby City Council are moving forward with their 2030 Masterplan which will create 4,000 jobs, leverage £3.5 billion of investment and the development of 1,900 city centre homes. Rachel will give an update on the masterplan, as well as how the council are supporting landmark projects including the £200 million Becketwell regeneration scheme.

Woods Hardwick – Paul Woods, Planning Director

Paul Woods is a Planning Director at Woods Hardwick with responsibility for leading the Birmingham Planning Team from the Company’s Birmingham office in Fort Dunlop.  He has over 30 years’ experience of town planning gained in both the public and private sectors. As a consultant in the private sector, Paul has been involved in a wide range of planning and development schemes including large scale infrastructure projects, town centre redevelopment schemes, commercial and residential schemes and conservation and listed building projects.

Midlands Connect – Sarah Spink, Strategic Partnerships Director

With so much transport related investment on the table in the Midlands, Sarah joins the conference to discuss progress with the £3.5bn Midlands Engine Rail initiative and progress with plans for the A50/A500 Corridor, the A46 corridor and the A5 corridor. She will also talk about the partnership work needed to connect people with different towns and cities through innovation and technology investment.

Court Collaboration – Chris Keogh, Director of Development & Operations

Court Collaboration are pressing ahead with significant plans in Birmingham with over 1,400 apartments set de be developed over two schemes in the coming years. Chris will give more details on these projects and also look ahead to their future development plans in the midlands. Chris will also give an update on the progress of their £250 million city living scheme in Wolverhampton.

Shoosmiths – Jason Jackson, Partner

Jason is a partner in Shoosmiths’ real estate division, based in the firm’s Birmingham office. With a focus on commercial real estate development and funding, Jason has a strong track record advising on logistics and warehousing sites, regeneration schemes and mixed-use projects across the Midlands region and beyond. He advises on site acquisitions, pre-lets and forward funding arrangements with pension funds and investors, together with joint venture arrangements between developers and property-led corporate transactions.

Transport For the West Midlands – Anne Shaw, Director of Network Resilience

The Birmingham Tram extension will see the tramline extended by 1.7km from Bull Street in the city centre to a new terminus in High Street Deritend. The project is part of a £1.5bn package of extensions planned for the region. The extension is intended to support regeneration in Digbeth and connect the tram network to the future High Speed 2 station at Curzon Street. Anne will give us more insight into the scheme and look ahead to future schemes in the West Midlands.

Turner & Townsend – Andy Scott, Director, Head of Infrastructure South

Andy leads Turner & Townsend’s UK Infrastructure Southern Region, a business of over 850 people with offices in Birmingham, London and Bristol. Andy and his team deliver project, programme and commercial management services to some of the leading infrastructure clients in the Midlands including Birmingham City Council, HS2, Highways England, Network Rail, WMCA and the East Midlands Development Corporation. Andy has had a significant impact on shaping Turner & Townsend’s future, and he is a member of the UK infrastructure board.

He has a deep knowledge, understanding and passion for how connected infrastructure can be developed to unlock economic growth and improved placemaking across the Midlands.

Urban Growth Company – Sue Barrett, Chief Operating Officer

Supported by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and the West Midlands Combined Authority , the Urban Growth Company is a critical catalyst for growth, ensuring that ambitions for the HS2 Interchange site are fully realised by coordinating investment plans and growth opportunities. Sue will give an update on their key project – The Hub, which will create 8,000 homes, 70,000 new and supported jobs and over 650,000 sq ft of commercial space.
