Whitbread is set to build a new 294-bed hotel in Westminster after successfully overturning a decision to reject the plans.

The hotel plans were initially rejected by Westminster City Council and the Greater London Authority in 2018 due to the servicing bay’s location, however the planning inspector over-ruled the decision. [emaillocker id=”71749″]

They’re now set to redevelop the building – a former office block – into a hotel under their Hub by Premier Inn brand. The brand offers a more compact room than a standard Premier Inn but with great locations in the heart of the city and at lower prices. There are currently eight Hub by Premier Inn’s across London with two more scheduled for delivery in 2020 – in West Brompton and Soho – in addition to this new Westminster scheme.

Whitbread’s Derek Griffin, Head of Acquisitions will be speaking at our London Property Club in March to discuss their future growth and plans for new hotels in London. Speaking after the decision was made to overturn he said: “With planning permission now granted we’ll move quickly to redevelop the site and start to deliver a package of local benefits to the area including 60 new jobs on opening.”

Premier Inn purchased the building on Old Marylebone Road in 2016 and with this news they’re expecting to open in 2021/22. The hotel will be 13-storeys in height and include a ground floor cafe.
