An ambitious scheme is coming to Manchester city centre – with two hotels being developed, with one on top of the other. The site of the former Peterloo House in St Peter’s Square will be transformed into a thriving and vibrant area.

Property Alliance Group, who are behind the scheme, will be discuss the property and others within Manchester at the North West Development Plans Conference in July.

The two tier hotel project marks the final piece in the St Peter’s Square regeneration, where several buildings laid dormant and derelict for years. Work is now underway on the development – with foundations for the 20-storey tower being laid currently. The impressive building will contain more than 300 hotel rooms and 250 aparthotel rooms. The two hotels will be:

Motel One will occupy this first eight floors – with 328 hotel rooms, whilst the second hotel – Staycity Aparthotels, will take up floors nine to twenty, with 256 studios and one-bedroom units under the Wilde Aparthotels brand.

The main entrance for Motel One will be on Dickinson Street – facing the main square, whilst the entrance to Staycity Aparthotels will be at the corner of Dickinson Street and George Street.

Head of Development at Property Alliance Andy Lavin said of the build: ”This is the first of its kind in Manchester, but there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work anywhere, particularly if the hotel sector stays strong.”

The initial plan was to build new offices on the plot – similar to the other developments which happened on the other sites – but Property Alliance went back to the drawing board after those two other buildings were approved. To add variety to the area the hotel development was born.

Designed by Stephenson Studio the build is set to be finished by 2022.

We’re excited to hear more about the developments in Manchester at the North West Development Plans Conference.
