Marks & Spencer has signed a lease with Gallagher Properties Ltd for a new Marks & Spencer store at Eclipse Park, near Junction 7 of the M20 in Maidstone.

Construction of the 7,808m2 (84,044 ft2) store is underway, with its doors planned to open in the summer of 2020. The store will sell Clothing and Home as well as having a Foodhall and M&S café.  The store will create up to 300 jobs in the local area.

M&S identified Maidstone as the ideal location for this major new store, which will be the largest new store opening in 2020, and designed to be ‘inspirational’, drawing people from a wide catchment area.

The design of the store is attractive, with smart, clean glazing and cladding and Kentish Ragstone walling. It is being constructed by Gallagher Ltd with aggregates, Kentish Ragstone and ready mix concrete being supplied by Gallagher Aggregates Ltd from its nearby Hermitage Quarry.

Pat Gallagher, Chairman of Gallagher Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome Marks & Spencer to Eclipse Park. Marks & Spencer choosing Maidstone for the location of this new store is a major vote of confidence in Kent’s county town.

“This project highlights the full ‘start to finish’ capabilities of Gallagher Group, with our different companies all working together to deliver a major new store for this highly-respected retailer.”

Sacha Berendji, Retail, Operations and Property Director at Marks & Spencer, said, “As part of our transformation plan we’re reshaping our store estate to respond to the needs of the modern consumer. In Maidstone we’re creating a shopping experience fit for the future by investing in our new store at Eclipse  Park. The store will showcase our Clothing, offer a large Foodhall and seamlessly integrate with our online services. We’re delighted to be working with Gallagher Group and we look forward to opening our doors to customers next year.”

M&S joins NEXT Home & Fashion, which opened a store at Eclipse Park in 2014. Gallagher Properties also has planning permission for offices and a hotel at Eclipse Park.
