Manchester Development Plans Growth Northern Powerhouse Agenda Partnership

Research carried out by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) has revealed that cities in the North of England are leading the development charge within the UK. The report, done on behalf of Royal Mail, shows Manchester has applied for the most new development plans in the country over the past three years following by:

  • Leeds
  • Wigan
  • Liverpool

It’s further backing of the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ and the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, who’ll be discussing the agenda at the HS2 Economic Growth Conference in November, have welcomed the news. [emaillocker id=”71749″]Lord Jim O’Neill, Vice Chair of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, said: ”It has been clear for some time that parts of the Northern Powerhouse, in particular the North West, are actually doing far better than people seem to think, even outperforming London in some areas. The unique aspect of the Northern Powerhouse, and why it is so crucial in rebalancing the economy, is that its towns and cities are close enough to create a true single market which can have a significant national impact.”

The report also highlighted many other construction sectors have benefitted from a sizable building boom in the last five years including:

  • Office Space – 92% Increase
  • Schools & Universities – 35% Increase
  • Entertainment Venues – 62% Increase
