Quinn Estates Ashford Development

A planning application has been submitted for a new 750-home scheme in Ashford by major developer Quinn Estates. The development will now be looking into by Ashford Borough Council, with a view of starting work on the scheme in late 2019 if the thumbs up are given.

Quinn Estates, who’ll be speaking at the Thames Estuary Development Plans Conference in April, are working alongside Redrow Homes on the scheme – and have initially aksed for outline planning permission for up to 430 homes and a full planning permission for 320. The 81.9-acre site scheme include:

  • 750 homes; including 61 one-bed flats, 170 two-bed flats, 34 two-bed houses, 350 three-bed houses and 134 four-bed houses.
  • 30% affordable housing
  • School
  • Gym
  • Community Centre
  • Footbridge; providing a crossing on foot and for cyclists
  • Office space

The proposed primary school needs permission from Kent County Council – with a view of the institution holding up to 420 pupils.

Highlighting the importance of protecting the environment to create a sustainable development Mark Quinn, who’ll be speaking at the Thames Estuary Development Conference, said: “Much of the work will be focussed within the fields with natural highways formed of green corridors, so we’re confident we can mitigate and actually enhance the ecology of the area by a substantial amount. The land has been excessively farmed and they’ve used pesticides on the site. We’ve got acres and acres of land that needs improvement, so we’re spending lots of money creating proper zones and pathways for wildlife.”

The site is already interesting major nationwide retailers according to the developer – who also confirmed that they’ll be investing into infrastructure surrounding the site to help Highways England in helping to create a new Junction on the M20. Quinn added: “We are putting millions in section 106 contributions into traffic mitigation, and have long been working with KCC Highways and Ashford Borough Council to come up with sufficient mitigation for roads around the site.”
