The largest ever regeneration scheme to transform the Borough of Poole is set to take a step closer this year – as Poole Council are set to start the official process for obtaining a development partner in the autumn. The £134m masterplan is set to rejuvenate the area, adding over 400 homes, a new bus station and leisure centre, as well as a hotel.

The regeneration is set to be a key topic at our Bournemouth Development Plans Conference where the Borough of Poole Council will be sharing further details. Julian McLaughlin, Head of Growth and Infrastructure at the Council be will the man delivering the overview and future development plans.

The proposals within the masterplan feature the redevelopment of Council owned assets such as Kingland Road and Seldown Car Park’s as well as the Dolphin Swimming Leisure Centre. The vision will be to transform these areas of the town, whilst also creating a traffic-free public space fronting the Lighthouse which would see bars and restaurants added to create a real vibrant atmosphere.

Kate Ryan, Strategic Director, said of the scheme: ”This provides a real opportunity to transform Poole town centre. The investment we’re making is considered a priority to help ensure the success of the overall redevelopment and enhance the vision of the town centre as an attractive place to visit and live. This council-led approach will build confidence and certainty, encouraging private sector development and other public sector investment over time. It will also achieve wider economic benefits including economic spend and gross value added, for example the hotel and food and beverage offer would product approximately 100 jobs.”

The creation of a new bus stop would need the infrastructure for 900 bus and coach movements each day.
