Detailed plans have been revealed for a major development near the Scottish Loch of Lomond. The plans, which have now been revealed to the public, highlights a development site at Woodbank House near Balloch – which Flamingo Land and Scottish Enterprise are leading.

Scottish Enterprise, who are set to speak at the Glasgow Development Plans Conference next week, are seeking ‘planning permission in principle’ to develop the site alongside Flamingo Land. The proposals include:

  • 105 self-catering lodges
  • 20 houses
  • Water park and pool
  • Restaurants
  • Retail facilities
  • Adventure play area
  • 60-bed hotel
  • Monorail
  • Brewery

The plans are ‘tasteful tourism focused’ and ‘are appropriate to the setting in a national park and are not a theme park that would be incompatible with the location’ according to a supporting statement published.

A spokesperson for Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National park said: ”If the application is approved the applicant will then have to submit further applications for detailed aspects of the proposal before any development can take place. The application will be assessed against the planning policies and guidance set out in our Local Development Plans and other relevant issues before a report of recommendation is submitted to our broad members for them to consider. This recommendation will then be discussed at a public meeting where the National Park Authority Board members will make a decision to either approve or reject the application.”

It’s likely to form part of the discussion at the Glasgow Development Plans Conference based on Scottish Enterprise’s involvement in the scheme. Join us there!
