HS2 Toton Delivery

Nottinghamshire County Council are set to submit a funding request to Government to help fund a major new piece of infrastructure within the East Midlands. The funding bid, totalling £26.5m, would be used to create a new road link connecting the massive new housing and residential development at Cheywynd Barracks to the new HS2 Toton station.

The regional authority, who’ll be speaking at the Midlands Development Conference, will request for funding through the Housing Infrastructure Fund – a pot of cash which is helping to unlock major developments across the UK. If successful the money would be used to connect the new residential community with HS2 Toton Hub whilst creating a corridor of fresh development opportunities to further drive economic growth across the Midlands.

Sajeeda Rose, Chief Executive Officer of D2N2 and speaker at the Midlands Development Conference, said: “The Housing Infrastructure Fund bid for an East Midlands network of garden villages will be a key component of delivering the overall East Midlands HS2 Growth Strategy. If successful, it will provide for significant infrastructure investment to unlock new housing and high quality employment sites at strategic locations across the D2N2 area including Chetwynd Barracks at Chilwell, Toton, Infinity Garden Village in Derby and Chesterfield Town Centre. Making the most of HS2 through a well balanced approach to housing and employment will be key to unlocking its transformative potential.”

Cllr Eric Kerry – who represents Toton, Chilwell and Attenborough, said: “I’m fully behind this Housing Infrastructure Fund bid which will support development around the planned East Midlands Hub HS2 station. It’s absolutely essential to provide the necessary infrastructure improvements up front and make sure that we design the best environment for housing and economic development in Toton and Chilwell.”
