Expansion Coventry Warwick University Midlands Birmingham Faculty Art Planning Architect Building Construction Sustainable Energy

The University of Warwick have been given the thumbs up for a massive estates expansion – which will see them deliver 9 new estate projects over the coming years. The expansion, totalling around £400m in development works, will see the creation of new student accommodation, new educational buildings and a massive lecture theatre.
The University of Warwick, who’ll be speaking at our Birmingham & West Midlands Development Plans event in January, have secured the approval of Coventry City Council’s team. The proposed developments include:

  • 1,000 new student bedrooms
  • £80m Faculty of Arts Building
  • £54m Biomedical Research Building
  • 400-seat lecture theatre
  • Social & collaboration spaces
  • 27,000 sq ft of commercial space
  • 650-space multi-storey car park

The University has confirmed that along with the developments mentioned above they’ll also be developing new pedestrian and cycle routes to enhance connectivity and infrastructure around the campus – along with public realm works to provide social and health benefits for those studying and living at the University grounds.

The University, who’ll be represented at our Birmingham & West Midlands Development Plans event by Head of Sustainable Estates Joel Cardinal, said of the announcement: ”We’re pleased to hear that our hybrid planning application has been approved. It follows considerable consultation with the local community and with students and staff on our campus. It will help the university to continue to be one of the world’s top 100 universities and to bring considerable benefits to the economy, culture, and life of the city of Coventry, Warwickshire and the West Midlands.”

Of the application ahead of the planning meeting Coventry City Council said: ”The University of Warwick is a key employer and educational provider in Coventry and in order to enable them to respond to change over the next 3-5 years the development within these proposals is of paramount importance.”

We’re excited to hear more about the University of Warwick’s plans and they’ll be sharing their project proposals, and information on how to get involved, at the Birmingham & West Midlands Development Plans event.
