York Student Accommodation Planning

The City of York Council will this week give the thumbs up for a major project brought forward by the University of York. The project will see the expansion of their East Campus site – with the creation of nearly 1,500 new student accommodation beds across new buildings set to be built.

The University of York, one of the speakers at our York Development Plans Conference in January, have set out their plans within the planning application which includes:

  • North College – comprising of ten blocks of student accommodation with 870 beds.
  • South College – comprising of 490 beds across eight blocks.
  • Central Hub – with reception facilities and communal space.
  • Gateway Green – remaining accommodation to be situated in two blocks between the two colleges.

GRAHAM have been announced as the main contractor for the £113m scheme – and they’ll also be at the York Development Plans Conference to exhibit, engage with those within the supply chain, and promote the work they’re doing.

The report from the council says the scheme “would not have an adverse impact that would significantly and demonstrably outweigh its benefits.”
