Wiltshire College Campus plans approved

Posted on: April 24th, 2018

Plans have officially been approved for Wiltshire College’s new campus. The project, set to cost around £15m, will now see the development kickstart with a new building built onto the side of the existing campus on Southampton Road.

The project is set to be a focus of our South Coast Development Plans Conference next week where Wiltshire College are set to present about their future campus plans.

The refurbishment of some of the existing buildings will begin this summer, before the larger project to start the new building will begin next year – with a completion date of September 2020. The new building is set to include classrooms, restaurants, a gym, lecture theatre and more – along with new engineering facilities and a Life Sciences and a Higher Education centre.

The college will also be changing the outlook of the existing building – with improvements to be made to the public space and landscaping to achieve a much improved look and feel.

The money for the development was secured by the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (SWLEP) which is focusing on key projects in the area such as housing, employment and skills.

Deputy Principle and Project Sponsor Adrian Ford, who’ll be speaking at our event, said: ”To get the money for the project we had to be in line with the LEP’s priorities for the region and to do this we will introduce six life science degrees and we’re also opening more engineering courses. Salisbury is a city that has to import these workers from other areas and with this we will be able to grow our own at a higher level. There is no doubt that the LEP funding is underpinned by the long-term growth of the college which means more students and more skills. We want to get twice the amount of students than we have over the coming years.”

We look forward to hearing more about the development, and the future vision for education in the region, at the South Coast Development Plans Conference.
