Worcester Regen Thornloe Development

Plans to transform a former Worcester nightclub into student accommodation have been submitted to the council – in a bid to revitalise the derelict building.

The plans, submitted by Regen Developments and Thornloe Developments in a JV, outline their ambition to turn the ‘eyesore’ into a 100-bed student accommodation block. The scheme proposes:

  • 2 x eight-bed clusters with shared amenities
  • 2 x five-bed clusters occupying the top two levels
  • Reception area on entry
  • Common room

Although no parking is planned on the site there is plans to include storage for up to 100 bicycles in a bid to get students using different methods of transport, and the building is within walking distance of both the city centre and the nearby University of Worcester.

The site can been called ‘an eyesore’ by locals – having laid empty since a former nightclub closed down in 2012. Initial plans had suggested the site could hold 112-beds for student acommodation with an additional storey set to be built on top however after consultation the JV between Regen and Thornloe have decided to keep the building at 8-storeys.
