Alex McGuire; Group Director of Property; Wheatley GroupAlex McGuire Resized

Alex is responsible for Wheatley Housing Group’s investment, repairs, maintenance and regeneration programmes aimed at renewing and improving communities across central Scotland. This includes the Transformational Regeneration Areas in Glasgow.

Alex’s responsibilities also extend to the development of our Commercial Residential portfolio, and the continued growth and development of associations under the Wheatley Housing Group brand, which currently include Loretto, West Lothian Housing Partnership, Cube Housing, Lowther Homes and Your Place as well as Glasgow Housing Association.

Before taking up his current role, Alex was Executive Director of Development and Regeneration at GHA and was responsible for the city-wide new build, capital investment and revenue repairs and maintenance programmes.  Alex joined GHA in 2008 from West Lothian Council where he worked as a manager in Housing Strategy and Development.  He has previously worked in both the private and public sectors, involved in housing-led regeneration.


Martin McKay; Executive Director of Regeneration; Clyde Gatewaymartin_mckay Resized

Martin’s involvement with Clyde Gateway began in 2006 with Scottish Enterprise where, along with the partner team, he was responsible for development of the Business Plan and Operating Plan.  Appointed as Senior Manager of Development in 2009, Martin was promoted to his current post in October 2013 to take a strategic and executive overview on the delivery of physical regeneration projects being undertaken by Clyde Gateway, including the recent completion of three major office developments totalling 200,000 sq ft.  Martin also oversees efforts to obtain further investment into the area, particularly from private sector partners and is leading on Shawfield, the largest commercial and industrial planning consent in Scotland.

Bringing over 20 years experience to the task, Martin, a Chartered Architect, has held board positions with Architecture & Design Scotland and is a past-President of the Glasgow Institute of Architects.


Ken Ross; CEO, Ross Developments & RenewablesKen Ross Resized

Ken Ross has a portfolio of activities and is the CEO or Chairman of a group of companies relating to land, hotels and leisure, residential development, the private rental sector, masterplanning and asset management.

Ken graduated in 1970 and qualified as a Surveyor in 1972.  He was President of the Scottish Housebuilders Association in 1987/1988 and was a founding Director when Homes for Scotland was formed.  Ken went on to become Chairman of the Scottish Property Federation (SPF) during 2007.

In 2006, Ken was appointed to the Regeneration Board advising the Executive and Scottish Ministers on matters relating to regeneration in Scotland.

Ken was a member of the Climate Change Business Delivery Group. In 2007, he was a member of the Sullivan Committee advising the Scottish Ministers on a low carbon strategy for Scotland and is now a Member of the 2020 Climate Group actively involved in sustainability and renewable projects throughout Scotland.

In December 2007, Ken was awarded an OBE for his services to the Construction Industry.

In 2008, he was invited to join the National Economic Forum and in 2009 was invited to become a Member of the Housing Supply Task Force.  In 2010, he was appointed to the Housing Policy Advisory Board, advising Scottish Ministers on housing matters in Scotland and in 2015 was invited to join the Housing Policy & Delivery Group.

Ken Chairs an International Charitable Trust involved in projects in Malawi. In 2011 he was invited to become a Governor of the Glasgow School of Art and also serves on the Development Board for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow as a Non-Executive Director.

Ken has supported Art in Business for a considerable time and has always incorporated a Percent for Art in every development.

He is also an active supporter of Common Purpose and provides mentoring and coaching support for a number of individuals and organisations.

In his limited free time, Ken enjoys gardening, travel, reading and fishing.


Katie Hughes; Director of Estates, Scottish CanalsKatie Hughes Resized

Katie Hughes is Director of Estates and Commerce at Scottish Canals and is responsible for the management, development and regeneration of the land and buildings along the nation’s 137-mile canal network.

Katie and her team work to maximise the value of Scottish Canals’ extensive and diverse portfolio, which includes everything from large regeneration sites in key locations, to historic lock keepers’ cottages and fleets of residential canal barges. Through sensitive development, the team generates income to build for the future of the 200-year-old canal network while safeguarding its rich heritage.

A member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Katie is also responsible for managing large scale regeneration developments such as the ongoing transformation of North Glasgow – working with a number of partners and stakeholders in the area, Katie and her team have already led the construction of Scotland’s first urban watersports centre, as well as the creation of a flourishing creative quarter featuring the likes of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and The Whisky Bond.

Before Scottish Canals Katie was a Fund Manager for Deutsche Bank in Australia for four years, before which she was European Development Director at Gazeley – the founders of the Magna Park concept.
