Presentations & discussions points will include an overview from Sheffield City Council on a major regeneration scheme in the City, details of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes plans to open a production facility in Sheffield which will cost around £20m, McLaren Automotive will be speaking about their new production facility coming to Sheffield which will sit next to the Sheffield University’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), an outline of ambitious development plans by the Sheffield Hallam University and much more. Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council will also be presenting new development opportunities as they seek development partners – with the tender process to begin around the end of January. We are back again to continue the discussions around the Sheffield City region looking again at the development plans and investment opportunities. Sheffield Hallam University have a specific input into this event and will talk about the higher education sector and the role that they play. The university continues to grow and has ambitious development plans which Mark Swales, Director of Estates and Facilities at Sheff Hallam will talk through. Sharon Kemp, the CEO at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, will talk about the role that they have to play in both the Sheffield City region and also how the ‘One Yorkshire’ and Northern Powerhouse discussions benefit Rotherham. Edward Highfield, Director for City Growth, will bring to the event the details around development plans for Sheffield and in particular will present an update on the major regeneration scheme in the City centre which he is leading on. Edward will also discuss the opportunities to increase the private sector engagement and partnership in the region. Denzil Lawrence, Head of Supplier Development at Boeing, will speak about the plans to open Boeing’s first factory in Europe which is to be located in Sheffield. The facility will manufacture high-tech components for Boeing’s world-leading 737 and 777 aircraft. Denzil will be joined by Dawa Singh, Head of Pre-Construction at J F Finnegan, who’ll also be able to discuss further details alongside Denzil. Ruth Nic Aoidh, Executive Director for Commercial & Legal at McLaren Automotive joins the panel to discuss their new purpose built production facility at the AMRC. The project will bring over 200 jobs to the region, with a view of production starting as early as 2020. As Theresa May has highlighted the automotive industry and next generation vehicles as key pillars to the UK’s industrial strategy after Brexit. The facility, which could be expanded in the future, will be built alongside Rolls-Royce and Boeing’s facilities.
