Here’s an overview of the confirmed speakers: Nottingham City Council – Paul Seddon, Director of Planning and Regeneration There is a plethora of development and regeneration opportunities in the pipeline in Nottingham with the city currently going through a boom of regeneration and student accommodation projects – with the Broadmarsh regen project standing out as a ‘once in a generation opportunity’. Paul will join the conference to give intel on the Broadmarsh scheme as well as the significant pipeline of council led schemes which are set to transform the city. Midlands Connect – Karen Heppenstall, Head of Rail Midlands Connect are one of the organisations leading the charge on creating a sustainable transport and infrastructure in the Midlands with one of their flagship schemes being the £3.5bn Midlands Engine Rail programme. Karen joined Midlands Connect as Head of Rail in April 2021 and has already influenced the shape of the Strategy Refresh published in late in 2021 and is working closely with senior colleagues at Network Rail and DfT to address current challenges in the region and will join the conference to discuss their role in creating tomorrow’s net zero Midlands. Nottinghamshire County Council – Matthew Neal, Service Director for Investment and Growth Matthew will join the conference to give intel on the plans and opportunities set to be created by Nottinghamshire County Council’s 3 major development zones – around East Midlands Airport, Toton’s East Midlands Hub and the proposed West Burton Nuclear Fusion Plant which are all set to bring tens of thousands of jobs to the region as well as growing the economy by over £5bn per year. Matthew will also discuss the council’s partnership with Arc Partnerships and how they are aiding with the creation of a healthier, greener and more prosperous Nottinghamshire over the next 10 years. Connected Places Catapult – Zoe Jennings, Head of UKCCIC Zoe heads up the UK Cities Climate Investment Commission whose aim is to pioneer new cycles of net zero investment, bringing together revised urban utilities and infrastructure, with a new approach to the built environment, and an enabling environment that allows citizens to make easy low carbon choices by working with local government and other stakeholders. With climate action becoming more integrated within city economic recovery plans, recognising that the green economy will both produce some of the quickest impacts and achieve the most long-lasting benefits is a key message the UKCCIC is wanting to transmit and Zoe will discuss their aims and ambitions as well as their work in the East Midlands. St. James Securities – Paul Morris, Director St James Securities are working in consultation with Derby City Council to bring forward the major Becketwell regeneration scheme in the city centre. The new development will feature 310 BTR apartments and a range of office spaces, a hotel, a multi storey car park and retail space as a part of the £200 million project. The scheme will also see the delivery of a new 3,500 capacity performance venue that is set to be managed and operated by ASM Global who manage venues across all five continents. West Lindsey District Council – Sally Grindrod-Smith, Assistant Director of Planning and Regeneration West Lindsey District Council have major ambitions to level up the region with employment creating projects as well as significant housebuilding targets. As one of the leaders of the council’s planning and regeneration team, Sally will be well placed to discuss their plans to create new, inclusive communities – with 7000 homes needing to be delivered by 2036 – and a massive employment creating development on a 30 hectare site at Hemswell. Leicester City Council – David Beale, Development Manager Leicester City Council is at the forefront of major investment and regeneration across the region. The city is one of 133 council-led projects across the country to successfully receive a share of the Housing Infrastructure Fund, aiming to develop homes at a much quicker pace. Recently work has begun on a 321-acre major house building development, Ashton Green that will see a mixed-use development of up to 3000 homes and 24.7 acres of employment land. In addition to this the council has also been awarded a further £10 million in government funding to develop a highway system to maximise the accessibility to this development. Arup – Chloe Salisbury, Associate Director Chloe Salisbury is an experienced town planner who specialises in the preparation of plans and strategies, developing implementation strategies for development projects, and establishing innovative governance and delivery models. Chloe has overseen a number of Arup’s transformational projects in the East Midlands in recent years, including the Toton and Chetwynd Barracks Strategic Masterplan and the development of the business case for the East Midlands Development Corporation. She has also been an expert advisor on Arup’s work as Towns Fund Delivery Partner for the Government. Chloe undertakes work for a range of public and private sector clients, including international experience from a diverse range of places from the Channel Isles to the Middle East. Derby City Council – David Fletcher, Director of City Development and Growth Derby City Council are moving forward with their 2030 Masterplan which will create 4,000 jobs, leverage £3.5 billion of investment and the development of 1,900 city centre homes. David will give an update on the masterplan, as well as how the council are supporting landmark projects including the £200 million Becketwell regeneration scheme. Built Environment Networking – Fahmida Nisa, Host & Event Manager Nisa is a research, marketing and content specialist at Built Environment Networking.
