They include: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority – Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor It has been over a year since Nik took the reigns of the Combined Authority and already a significant number of strategic regeneration projects have been pushed forward. Identifying “six keys” to unlock sustainable growth in the region, the combined authority’s current priority is a consultation on improving transport links between the region and the wider UK. The Mayor has already made it his ambition to link regeneration to living a healthy life and improving life expectancy and as part of this event he will define what levelling up actually means for him. The Eastern Powerhouse – James Palmer, Chairman The Eastern Powerhouse is a dynamic, business-led, independent organisation that aims to create a strategic argument for investment in the East of England. It will promote the East as a world leader of innovation in green energy, technology and life science and will support sustainable business growth that leads to better opportunities for people across the East. James will talk about the impact that the Eastern Powerhouse will have over the next few years and what the opportunities are for the private sector to get involved in driving and supporting economic growth. East of England Local Government Association – Cllr Linda Haysey, Chair The East of England LGA is a politically-led, cross party organisation which works on behalf of the 50 local councils in the East of England to support them “to be the best that they can be for their communities”. Cllr Heysey will discuss the work the organisation is doing to secure investment into the region and unlock major regeneration projects, and the implications the levelling up white paper will have on growth and development in the region. Vistry Group – Andrew Taylor, Group Planning and Communities Director With last year’s acquisition of Countryside Properties, Vistry have increased their already huge pipeline of homes to be delivered across Garden Communities in the UK becoming one of the most prominent investors in these visions. Having become Visty’s Group Planning Director, Andrew will be well placed to discuss their plans which include 5,000 homes in Sherford near Plymouth, the 10,000-home Chelmsford Garden Community, 3,000 homes as part of the new Ashmere community in the Ebbsfleet Garden City masterplan, and around 1300 homes at Alphington, Exeter. Urban & Civic – Caroline Foster, Project Director Urban & Civic are one of the most active and respected master developers in the East of England and are developing numerous large scale regeneration schemes across the region. Their Waterbeach Barracks scheme is the region’s most significant project of its kind for a generation and will see 6,500 new homes, 4 new schools and large amounts of public and mixed use space on 716 acres of Defence Infrastructure Organisation land. They have also recently announced an agreement to develop 3,300 new homes alongside Hertfordshire County Council. Turnstone Estates – Tim Deacon, Director Turnstone Estates are one of the region’s most important developers, being involved in the office, retail, leisure and mixed-use sectors. Their £65 million Colchester Northern Gateway scheme which is being forward funded by Canada Life will see the development of a 200,000 sq ft leisure scheme including a 12 screen hotel, nine restaurants, a hotel, 750 space carpark and more. They are also leading on the local landowners element of Waterbeach New Town in Cambridgeshire which has been granted planning permission for 4,500 new homes, £100m contribution to local infrastructure and large amounts of employment space, schools and public realm. Kier Property – Fareen Lalani, Senior Development Director Kier Property are joint venture partners in the Watford Riverwell masterplan which will be delivered over multiple phases up to 2035. Valued at upwards of £350m and regenerating 65 acres. The scheme will create a new, vibrant community that will provide new jobs and homes; local retail, leisure and play facilities, and lots of public green space for everyone to enjoy. Fareen joins the event to update delegates on its importance to overall economic growth in the East of England. Endurance Estates – Tim Holmes, Director Endurance Estates is a Cambridge based property company specialising in land promotion, commercial property, mixed use and regeneration schemes and investment. They have successfully obtained planning permission for over 4000 new homes and completed more than 7.5 million sq ft of development and investment projects worth in excess of £2 billion. Tim will share details on their upcoming major projects which include hundreds of new homes across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire and a number of significant commercial projects. Harlow and Gilston Garden Town – Naisha Polaine, Director Harlow and Gilston Garden Town is the region’s most significant housing project in the region for a generation, with 16,000 new homes to be delivered by 2033, with a further 7,000 planned for 2033 onwards by a partnership of five local authorities. Unique amongst garden towns, it will see the regeneration of Harlow town centre as well as the development of new homes. As well as the new homes and town centre regeneration the project will also include a relocated hospital, new schools and new transport services including a forward thinking active travel plan. ARU Peterborough – Professor Ross Renton, Principal ARU Peterborough is a partnership between the Mayoral Authority of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Peterborough City Council and Anglia Ruskin University and realises a 40-year vision to bring a university to the city. The £75 million project opened its doors to the first 2,000 students in September 2022 and there are plans for continuous further expansion to offer courses to 12,500 students by 2032. Professor Renton joins us to discuss the transformative effect the university will have on student outcomes, satisfying demands and how to support the wider built environment ecosystem. Hethel Innovation – Alice Reeve, Chief Executive Alice Reeve is CEO at Hethel Innovation. She is responsible for the strategic direction of the company, identifying new growth opportunities for the business as well as overseeing the operation of sites within Hethel Innovation’s community: Hethel Engineering Centre, Scottow Enterprise Park, and Broadland Food Innovation Centre. Alice has extensive knowledge in the set up and delivery of successful Innovation Sites, and was until recently, a Co-opted Director of UK Science Park Association (UKSPA). In this session, Alice will discuss the exciting growth taking place across the Hethel Innovation community from new incubators and the 100,000 sq ft expansion of existing centres to refurbishment of heritage assets. Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community – Gary Guiver, Director of Planning The Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community is a 9,000 home joint project between Tendring District Council, Colchester Borough Council and Essex County Council. The community will be developed with an ‘infrastructure first’ approach to delivery over the next 20 years, which will see roads, a rapid transit system and key facilities and services, such as schools and health facilities provided alongside the new homes. Infrastructure funding has already been secured, including £100m from the Housing Infrastructure Fund for a A120/A133 link road. Wellcome Genome Campus – Sian Nash, Associate Chief Operating Officer The Wellcome Genome Campus is a world leading scientific research centre, home to some of the foremost genomics and computational biology institutes and organisations. The campus is planning a major expansion which will see it triple in size and add a further 1.6 million sq ft of employment space and up to 1,500 homes for campus-based staff, 30 percent of which will be affordable. Sian will discuss these exciting plans, which will create an estimated 4,300 new jobs, and how they will allow the campus to become the international centre for scientific, business, cultural and educational activities arising from genomes and biodata. The multi-stage expansion programme will see the first spade in the ground later this year and continue for 10+ years. Suffolk County Council – Rob Hancock, Assistant Director – Planning, Housing and Economic Growth Suffolk County Council have recently announced plans to develop 3,000 new homes on underused council land, in a £700 million joint venture. The programme will have an emphasis on maximising social value, providing the types of homes that Suffolk needs, and across a range of sites meeting their climate sustainability commitments. They have also a commitment to deliver a 1,300 home new community, complete with a school, employment space, community centre, supported living facility and significant public realm. Rob will share details on the council’s ambitious housing vision for the coming years. APPG For the East of England – Daniel Zeichner MP, Chair The APPG for the East of England is pushing for the region to be included in the levelling up agenda and for funding to be made available for regeneration in its coastal communities and for the improvement of digital and physical infrastructure. Daniel will discuss the APPG’s four priorities for the region which are: delivering a ‘climate positive’ region, sustainable and inclusive growth, improved connectivity and decarbonisation and finally – financially resilient councils. Birketts – Claudia Haisman-Green, Partner, Commercial Property Claudia joined Birketts in October 2015 from a major international firm. She is a partner in our Commercial Property Team specialising in Strategic Land transactions. Claudia has a broad background with over 17 years of commercial property experience. Claudia works on many long term strategic projects from their inception, taking them through to the final sales phase. She is experienced in negotiating promotion agreements, collaboration agreements and hybrid option agreements and is skilled in acting for clients in multi-party transactions supporting the landowners on the sales to developers of consented land. She is known for her diligence and commitment to getting things done always ensuring the right protections are in place for landowners. Peterborough Science and Technology Park – Stephen Rice, Director The Whittlesey Science and Technology Park is a proposed science park on a former brickworks near Whittlesey, to the East of Peterborough. The site covers 170 acres with the park set to cover 40 acres with a further 84 acres dedicated to biodiversity enhancement and parkland. The site is envisaged as a hub for sustainable science and technology businesses and has the potential to create more than 1,000 jobs. Infrastructure works are expected to start in late 2023 ready to welcome the first tenants on site in 2024. Stephen will outline the plans for the park and how they are looking for prospective tenants to help shape their vision. Asset Earning Power Group – Ashley Butterfield, Chief Executive Asset Earning Power Group are behind the exciting East of England Showground mixed use project in Orton, Peterborough. Their plans include 1,600 homes and 50 acres of leisure facilities expected to create 500+ jobs on the 165 acre showground site. The housing will include a mix of affordable homes, BtR, private rental, housing association and open market owner-occupancy. AEPG is planning the leisure aspect of the project to be an accessible facility providing internal activities comprising competitive socialising, health and wellbeing, leisure and recreation, cultural and tourism uses as one comprehensive leisure village. Willmott Dixon – Les Carter, Strategic Framework Manager Les Carter is a Strategic Framework Manager at Willmott Dixon. Since 2012 he has been responsible for managing the key frameworks for the London and East business. He uses his extensive knowledge of a variety of frameworks and procurement solutions to offer customers value for money ways to procure their partners and projects, whilst complying with all relevant regulations and legislation. This allows his customers to focus on what is right for them, their communities and stakeholders, rather than lengthy, costly procurement processes. Before the frameworks role he was responsible the physical delivery of a wide variety of projects on site ranging across most sectors ranging from a single bespoke home to a hospital throughout England and Ireland.
