It is estimated that the development of 5G will be worth £158bn to the UK economy over the next decade. The research and development project will contribute to understanding how 5G can be used to address some specific challenges – economic growth, public safety, food production and environmental – as well as create new opportunities in Dorset and beyond. 5G Rural Dorset is a consortium led by Dorset Council and includes Vodafone, Telint, the University of Strathclyde, Satellite Applications Catapult and others. Midlands Engine – the Midlands has lead the way on testing and integrating 5G into its towns and cities with meaningful demonstration of economic growth taking place. Rachael joins this event to talk about the wealth of investment being put in to creating a world leading digital Midlands as the region continues to thrive. Oxfordshire County Council – Ruth Anderson works as Data & Digital lead in Oxfordshire County Council’s IHub Future Mobility team where she has been working for the past two years on CAV, Highway Network Management and 5G projects. Previously she managed the Council’s Traffic Management & Control team in the Traffic Control Centre, keeping the highway network moving for 10 years. She has over 20 years’ experience in traffic engineering, traffic signal design and managing the highway network both in consultancy and local authorities. WM5G – An expert in mobile network deployment, previously working for both Operators and vendors in the telco sector since the mid 90’s. Rhys is WM5G’s Director of Infrastructure Acceleration and has the primary role of accelerating 5G across the region by removing barriers, improving processes and facilitating relationships between the mobile operators and the local councils. A key focus for Rhys and the team is to always act as an ‘honest broker’, fostering a more collaborative and cooperative approach between both the operators and the councils, working to ensure citizens of the West Midlands are the first to benefit from the socioeconomic improvements that 5G will bring.
