Speakers include: MAG Group – Paul Willis, Chief Development Officer Paul is the Chief Development Officer for Manchester Airports Group. Paul joined MAG in 2015 and has held several senior positions including the Group Engineering Services Director, led the Stansted Transformation Programme responsible for delivering the c.£600m Transformation Programme for Stansted Airport and recently was Group Strategy Director, leading the strategic vision for MAG through the COVID 19 pandemic. Paul has over 30 years’ experience in the management, planning, design, construction, operation, and development of airports. Prior to joining MAG, Paul was the Global Head of Aviation for Arcadis and throughout his career has held a number of key management posts to design, construct and operate a number of international airports including the design, construction and opening of Athens International Airport. Department for Transport – Holly Greig, Deputy Director, Aviation Decarbonisation Division Holly will join the conference to explore the DFT’s future plans and the role the airport and aviation sectors will play in creating a net zero Britain as well as creating inclusive economic growth. Holly will also discuss the role the DFT played at COP26 where they kickstarted a year of ambition and collaboration – negotiating with like-minded states that are serious about decarbonising the aviation sector and forming an initiative to convince and bring in more states to commit to decarbonising their aviation sectors. London City Airport – Tim Halley, Director of Infrastructure and Planning London City Airport (LCA) have submitted a revised planning application for airport expansion- aiming to bring in 9 million passengers by 2031 and creating hundreds of jobs. LCA have already started the £12 million terminal refurbishment, which includes new restaurants, shopping outlets and revamped amenities for a better customer experience. Tim will talk about the role London City Airport will play in the aviation sector’s recovery and look ahead to the future development phases of their £500 million airport expansion. Gloucestershire Airport – Karen Taylor, Managing Director Gloucestershire Airport is UK’s busiest general aviation airport and is investing £8 million to upgrade the runways at Gloucestershire Airport, as a part of a £15 million in the Staverton site development. Karen – Managing director at Gloucestershire Airport and Non-Executive Director at Blackpool Airport will be joining the session to discuss new development, infrastructural regeneration, and economic growth in the region. Birmingham International Airport – Nikki Bains, Head of Planning, Transport and Strategy Birmingham Airport announced plans for £500m worth of development to increase passenger numbers from 13 million per year to 18 million by 2033. The expansion will see the departure lounge in the north terminal extended by 40% and is set to add a mezzanine, more check-in facilities, and additional seating and retail space. Nikki will reveal more intel on this expansion as well as discussing the airport’s strategy for recovery and the role the airport plays in Birmingham and the UK’s economy. Glasgow Airport – Ross Nimmo, Head of Planning & Development Glasgow Airport is owned by AGS Airports along with Southampton and Aberdeen Airports, carrying over nine million passengers per year, Glasgow Airport serves more Scottish destinations than any other airport and is a key component of Scotland’s transport infrastructure. Ross Nimmo leads Glasgow Airport’s Planning and Development team which is responsible for strategic master planning, transport (including city deal projects) and aerodrome safeguarding. His current portfolio includes developing ‘Airport City Glasgow’ and major public transport enhancements, including the landmark Glasgow Metro which is set to be developed over the next 10 years. The airport is in the midst of a multi-year development and expansion project, which will see a 500,000 sq ft airport city created to support the aerospace, freight and innovation sectors. Dublin Airport – Andrea Carroll, Group Sustainability Director Andrea recently took up the position of Group Sustainability Director at a busy time for the DAA with completion of Dublin airport’s new northern runway set to be operational in 2022 and a host of development plans in the pipeline – both at the airport and the surrounding airport city. Andrea will join the conference to reveal more about the DAA’s future development plans and how they will reach their sustainability targets going forward. Guernsey Airports – Ben Le Huray, Chief Commercial & Infrastructure Officer Guernsey Airport are drawing up a new masterplan to diversify the use of the airport in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. Phase one of the project will be to identify revenue opportunities and improve passenger experience at the Channel Islands airport. Airport owner Guernsey Ports want to maximise the value of its land and property on the site through new commercial ventures and optimising operations. Ben will join the conference to talk about the real opportunity for Guernsey Airport to become a catalyst for commerce on the island and reveal more details about the masterplan and how it will look to maximise the potential for new revenue streams. Connected Places Catapult – Hannah Tew, Director of Air Mobility Hannah is Director of Air Mobility Connected Places Catapult. A Fellow of IOM3 and Chartered Engineer, her career has been spent in collaborative industrial R&D. Hannah brings insights and stakeholder understanding of a wider aviation system including the integration of new classes of air vehicle and aviation sustainability, along with a complementary and in-depth knowledge of the manufacturing sector. Gatwick Airport – Jonathan Deegan, Planning and Environment Lead Gatwick Airport is pressing ahead with plans for a second runway – the proposed plans worth around £500m will see the airport’s emergency northern runway moved sideways by 12m and upgraded for routine short-haul use. Other elements of the proposals include improved airport access, highway improvements, as well as additional environmental mitigation, with the project set to be delivered in a sustainable way which will help them to achieve the Government’s overall goal of net zero emissions by 2050. Jonathan is leading on the project for Gatwick and will be on hand to reveal more intel on the scheme. MAG – Alistair Andrew, Strategic Planning and Investment Director Alistair is currently Strategic Planning and Investment Director for Manchester Airports Group, covering Manchester, East Midlands and London Stansted Airports, working for the business for over 10 years. In his time, he has overseen London Stansted’s Transformation Programme including the 35+ planning appeal; the successful bid for an East Midlands Freeport; as well as the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme and master planning for Airport City. . Weston Williamson + Partners – Samantha Dean, Senior Associate Samantha is an Associate Director at Weston Williamson + Partners, leading projects within our transport and infrastructure team. She has been involved in some of the UK’s largest transport projects from design to delivery, and has significant experience in transport architecture and a collaborative work approach, fostering relationships with multi-disciplinary teams. She is passionate about promoting the next generation of architects, and helping more young people enter the construction industry. Bristol Airport – Simon Earles, Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Director Bristol Airport previously announced their expansion masterplan which is estimated to bring £430 million to the economy of the Southwest of England and South Wales. As a part of the plan Bristol airport will be focusing on the drive to NetZero, developing greener infrastructure including hydrogen and sustainable growth. Simon will be joining the session to discuss sustainability, infrastructure requirements for airport and economic development. Blackpool Airport – Nick Gerrard, Growth and Prosperity Director One of the architects of Blackpool’s £1bn renaissance masterplan, Nick will unveil the intricate details behind the council’s sizeable investment and development ambitions which include all of the excellent work being scoped out at the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone as well as upgrades and maintenance to essential infrastructure, with further significant investment planned. He has a background working with all aviation stakeholders – airports, airlines, service providers and regulators across all areas of ATM/CNS, and has wide ranging experience covering project management, safety, business planning, market forecasting, training, and standardisation. He has a specialist interest in advanced technical and operational concepts to enable tangible benefits to airports and airspace users. He supports novel project that improve traffic flows, increase capacity and enable airspace optimisation and integration of all airspace users – current and future. BDB Pitmans – Tom Henderson, Partner Tom specialises in the authorisation of major infrastructure projects. He has a wealth of experience helping promoters obtain consent for complex projects, across the full range of consents processes including development consent orders (DCOs), transport and works orders, private and hybrid bills and harbour orders. He also advises those affected by major projects to ensure their interests are properly protected. He has worked on some of the largest and most high profile infrastructure projects in the UK. He is currently leading BDB’s legal team advising National Highways on the Lower Thames Crossing, its largest ever project, and on a number of other DCOs to authorise major highway improvements.
