The town is on the Irish Sea, 15 miles northwest of Preston, 27 miles north of Liverpool and 40 miles northwest of Manchester. It had an estimated population of 143,000. There is lots going on in Blackpool! Since devolution began to gather momentum a few years ago, Blackpool has risen to the development challenge and plays it’s part in the Northern Powerhouse and in developing Lancashire as a whole. The event will begin with a keynote introduction by the new deputy leader of the Council and will be followed by speakers from the Enterprise zone, Muse, Merlin entertainments and finally an in-depth look at all the development opportunities by the council. He now works in the fields of economic and property development where he has more than 30 years’ experience in the public and private sector. He specialises in regeneration, and large scale property and infrastructure development, public/private joint ventures and compulsory purchase. Currently Rob is Head of Enterprise and Investment at the Blackpool Bay Area Company (Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Economic Development Company) having previously worked as Deputy Director of Land and Property at ReBlackpool URC, whose mission was to regenerate the town of Blackpool by leading the implementation of physical projects, coordinated with a wide programme of skills, development and economic and social support. Previously he was Operations Director – Kingsway – Northwest Regional Development Agency, leading the development of a 420 acre business park at Rochdale; and was Development Director at Speke Garston Development Company in 1996 leading the regeneration of South Liverpool. Prior to that he worked in property development at Pilkington PLC. Rob is a resident of Ormskirk and is an active member of Ormskirk Methodist Church. His eldest son is a former Student of the University. He was appointed an Independent Governor in 2008 and is a member of the Resources Committee.
