There is currently a gaping 200,000 skilled person shortage in the UK construction sector- the worst position the industry has been in since 2007. The Skills Centre – Jon Howlin, CEO

The Skills Centre are one of the companies at the forefront of upskilling and retraining in our industry. As Director of Education, Rosalind is responsible for managing CIOB’s regulated qualifications and exams. She will share insight into what needs to be done to continue to drive students into the industry, and how we will drive development of the skills required for our future workforce.

CITB – Steve Radley, Director of Policy & Strategic Planning

The Construction Skills Fund provides free training to people looking to join the UK’s construction industry, benefitting both employers and workers. Steve will share insight into the programme designed to make our industry attractive and accessible career opportunities as well as talking about the other work CITB are doing to nurture the sector’s future professionals.

PLACED – Jo Harrop, Director & Founder

Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy – Stuart Young, Head of Stakeholder Engagement and Management

Stuart is Head of Stakeholder Engagement and Management for the UK Government’s BEIS Construction Team. Stuart works closely with key construction companies and trade associations to understand their key concerns and issues, feeding these into cross-Government policy work. Stuart operates across a range of Whitehall Departments including Cabinet Office, Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Home Office, Department for Education, and Department for International Trade.

Stuart also works within the Construction Leadership Council’s (CLC) Construct Zero programme, alongside the companies that are accelerating the sector’s transition to Net Zero

The Association for Consultancy and Engineering – Georgia Hughes, Chair & Director of Emerging Professionals

Formed to help the emerging generation of consultants and engineers working in the built environment, the Emerging Professionals group of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering provides career development opportunities across the country. The association has been working to enable the recruitment of skilled people who have lost their job during the pandemic, from sectors such as aerospace, automotive and retail.
