Future Development Plans – Cornwall

Friday, 27th May 2022 0945hrs – 1130hrs

This webinar will delve into the potential development, regeneration and investment opportunities which are emerging across Cornwall with billions of pound worth of projects to be discussed.

There are significant plans in the county to drive economic growth over the coming years such as the recently announced regeneration for the city centre of Truro, the Langarth Garden Village which is set to bring 2,700 homes and a new sports stadium to the region, digital hubs in the pipeline to create more skilled jobs and exciting space launch plans from Cornwall Airport Newquay.

In this webinar we will explore some of these exciting regeneration and housing plans, the job creation projects that come with such growth and look into specifics surrounding a number of forthcoming projects, procurement opportunities and upcoming investment.

Speakers for this event include:

Phil Mason,
Strategic Director of Economic Growth and Development
Kathryn Pennington,
Regional Development Director
John Vickers,
Chief Executive
  • Cornwall Council – plans have been revealed for a major £170million development in Truro city centre including new homes, a university campus and leisure facilities. As well as about 300 new homes being built on the Pydar site there are plans for student accommodation. The plans also include new shops, bars and restaurants, leisure facilities and a hotel totalling 17,000sq m of employment space. Phil will reveal more intel on this scheme as well as updating on the progress of the Langarth Garden Village which is approaching approval for the creation of 3500 different types of new homes, 200 specialised later life living developments, 50 residential units for key workers as well as a raft of community and leisure facilities which includes the “Stadium for Cornwall”.
  • Blue Abyss – Plans have been submitted to build the world’s deepest artificial pool in Cornwall to train astronauts and help advance undersea robotics as well as an onsite hotel. The £150m scheme is proposed for a 10-acre site at the Aerohub Enterprise Zone at Cornwall airport in Newquay and has been endorsed by British astronaut Major Tim Peake. The pool, which would have the capacity to fill 17 Olympic-size swimming pools, would be covered by a sliding roof and 30-tonne crane, allowing large objects to be lowered into the pool. Blue Abyss estimates that the underwater technology test centre will create 160 jobs and generate £8m annually for the local economy and as Chief Executive John will be well placed to discuss the story behind this considerable project for Cornwall.
  • Vistry Partnerships – Vistry Partnership South West are involved with the delivery of around 410 homes in the region working with Cornwall Council, Coastline Housing and Treveth Holdings. The latest scheme will see a new 154 home estate created on a 14-acre sports field at Long Rock, which borders the A30 on one side and is about a mile from both Penzance and Marazion. Kathryn is the Regional Director for Cornwall and will be well placed to give more intel on these schemes as well as revealing Vistry’s wider plans for the South West.
