Devolution & Development Plans in Cambridge & Peterborough | Event

Following the recent local elections, James Palmer was appointed as the new Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.  James has agreed to deliver our keynote introduction at our networking event which is being held on July 18th at The Guildhall in Cambridge.

The title of the event is “Devolution & Development Plans in Cambridge & Peterborough” and we have speakers from Combined and Local Authorities, Developers and Investors to discuss devolution in the region and in particular the effect that it will have on infrastructure and the built environment in the short term and also the long term. Developers U&I and Turnstone Estates will showcase their current portfolios and outline their plans for the future. Jeanette Walker will update us on developments with Cambridge Science Park and Mike Evans of Highways England will provide an overview of their infrastructure developments in the area and in particular what the A14 will do to improve connectivity.

This will be our 6th event in Cambridge and the timing is such that post general election, 2 months on from the local elections and with ongoing Brexit negotiations there will be lots to discuss and reflect on.

James Palmer the new Mayor has set out a challenging 100 day plan which he will be midway through at the time of the event and it will be very interesting to hear how this will be delivered and also how he sees things into 2018 and beyond.

Speakers

James Palmer, Mayor; Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority

As a Cambridgeshire resident, businessman, District Council leader and County Councillor, I have a track record which sets me apart – proof I am able to deliver as the first Mayor of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.

A thriving economy

I have lived and worked in Cambridgeshire all my life. I understand both its people and the local economy. I have run and expanded my own agricultural and dairy businesses. I entered local politics in 2007 and, as leader of East Cambs, I made it my mission to create a more business-like and business-friendly council. Business growth in my area was 12% last year.

I have championed devolution from day one because it is our one chance to build a bright future for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough on our own terms.

I helped negotiate the devolution deal for desperately needed infrastructure funding.

As your Mayor I will continue to get the job done.

Mike Evans, Senior Project Manager; Highways England

Tim Leathes, Development Director; Urban & Civic

Chris Goldsmith, Managing Director; Turnstone Estates

Chris launched Turnstone Estates in 1989, encouraged by his early success in property consultancy. He has since combined his complementary skills in financial services, development and portfolio management to great effect, steering the company through the vicissitudes of the market to its present enviable position.

Chris has concluded numerous major projects in Cambridge. He masterminded the Cambridge Cattle Market leisure scheme, and collaborated with the University of Cambridge to deliver the prestigious Hauser Forum.

Jeanette Walker, Director; Cambridge Science Park

Jeanette, working in partnership with managing agents Bidwells, will lead the transformational developments planned over the next few years, in addition to enhancing the community located there.

Based on a visionary, landscape-led master plan, new developments for the site will encompass state-of-the-art buildings including the Bradfield Centre, improvements to the transport infrastructure, innovative public areas and a range of new amenities incorporating a hotel and conference centre.

Prior to joining the Park, Jeanette worked as Project Director for the developers of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus where she was instrumental in attracting new tenants and in creating a sense of community – an achievement which was recognised in 2014 when the Campus won Property Week’s prestigious Place Making Award.

Jeanette’s previous experience includes five years as Director of Business Development at the region’s biotechnology networking organisation ERBI and, before that, as Business Development Director for the regional inward investment agency.
