Further Education Colleges Development Plans 2015 | Event

PLEASE NOTE that this event has changed format, location and timing from that originally advertised. It is now one of our “normal” events in London; at Central Hall Westminster, starting at 1530hrs and finishing at 1900hrs. There will be five colleges presenting both their plans for the future and also their requirements from the audience, which vary from needing new consultants, new contractors (especially for smaller works) to new and alternative forms of funding for residential blocks and help with selling of unrequired properties.

FIVE of the country’s leading FE Colleges will be presenting their development/investment plans for the next couple of years!

Jason Challender; Director of Physical Resources, Leeds City CollegeJason-Challender resized

Jason Challender is Director of Physical Resources at Leeds City College and a member of its Senior Leadership Team based at Park Lane, Leeds. He is responsible for overseeing a large department of approximately eighty staff and which includes Project Management, Estates Management, Campus Services and Health and Safety.

Over the last 25 years his professional background has been predominately in the Further Education Sector. He was formerly Project Director of Stockport College where he was responsible for all redevelopment and procured the part redevelopment of the Town Centre Campus which included a landmark £24 million Construction and Engineering Centre. He also oversaw the complete redevelopment of Manchester College across numerous sites throughout the city from 1999 to 2006. This was hugely successful and saw the complete transformation and major expansion of the College over this period.

Prior to this Jason spent many years in the airline industry. He was Head of New Developments for BMI based at Heathrow Airport and was responsible for instigating a network of business lounges and customer services facilities across the UK and Europe as part of the airlines major international expansion programme.

His main focus for staying in the education sector over the last fifteen years is that he strongly believes that knowledge, education, training and qualifications change people’s lives for the better. In this regard he has also previously participated in lecturing students and has published an academic research paper.

Adrian Clarke; Vice Principal, Grimsby Instituteadrian clarke resized

I was born in Cleethorpes and educated at Lindsey School, now Cleethorpes Academy, before undertaking further study at the then Grimsby College of Technology, which is now known as Grimsby Institute Group. I originally planned to go to University on completion of my BTEC National, however at the end of my course I was offered a great opportunity to work at a multinational Telecommunications company, which came about through the College’s reputation for providing good candidates for jobs. After getting a good grounding in Information Technology at the Telecommunications company, I then moved to the local Borough Council before being appointed to the post of Administration IT Manager here in 1993.

Over the last 20 years at the Institute my post title has changed many times and I have been involved almost all aspects of the organisation. Being locally born and bred and having had the fantastic experience both educationally and socially at the College when I was 16, I’m passionate that all our learners should be able to have the same experience, get the same life chances from it that I have had and be as prepared for employment as the College made me. I’m also passionate that we can provide better facilities for our learners than any other education provider.

I’m married to Julie and we have three children, two of which are still at Primary School, which means I generally have no free time being the family taxi driver for the thousand activities they seem to have. In that small bit of free time I do have, I seem to have a couple of years ago inherited a Boys u11 Football Team who I coach a couple of times a week and play matches at the weekends.

Don Everitt; Director of Finance & Planning, Rotherham CollegeDon Everitt resized

Following experience in auditing and then as Head of Finance at another College, Don has been at Rotherham College since 2008. The Finance aspect of his role means Don helps to ensure that we retain a good financial status, but also that we are able to invest money in re-developing our Estate and resources for staff and students. For that reason Don also has responsibility for Estates and our Central Services and IT Department.
