APPG for Events – Owen Thompson MP, Vice Chair

Owen Thompson is the Scottish National Party MP for Midlothian, holding his office continuously since December 12th 2019. He is Vice Chair of the APPG for Event, established in 2011 to be the voice of the events industry in Westminster, highlighting the value of the sector and ensuring the UK remains a leading destination for international events.

Alliance Leisure – Sarah Watts, Chief Executive Officer

Sarah Watts has worked in the leisure industry for over 30 years both in the public and private sector. She founded Alliance Leisure in 1999, which develops facilities on behalf of leisure operators wanting to improve or expand the leisure services they offer.

APSE and ukactive award winners for their design, build and partnership service, Alliance have completed over 160 leisure developments and have overseen over £175m investment in the UK leisure market, from fitness refurbishments to large-scale multi-activity new build developments. Alliance also supports UK leisure operators with comprehensive sales, marketing and training services delivered through their TA6 brand, with their support available for any leisure operator looking to increase income, develop their staff, and improve the health of their local community.

St James Securities – Paul Morris, Development Director

St James Securities are working in consultation with Derby City Council to bring forward the major Becketwell regeneration scheme in the city centre. The new development will feature 259 one and two-bedroom apartments and a range of office spaces as a part of the £200 million project. The scheme will also see the delivery of a new 3,500 capacity performance venue that is set to be managed and operated by ASM Global who manage venues across all five continents, including Manchester’s AO Arena, the SSE Wembley Arena and the first direct Arena in Leeds.

NEC Group – Daniel Boulger, Head of Venue Partnerships

NEC Group is one of the world’s top venue management companies, operating a number of world-class venues including the NEC, the ICC, Utilita Arena Birmingham and the Vox Conference Venue. The group currently delivers more than 750 events annually across its five Birmingham-based venues. Though it is looking to expand its influence into West Yorkshire with a £2m investment into the Bradford Live project, that would see the derelict former Odeon theatre, converted into a new live music venue. NEC will operate and manage the venue once the conversion is completed.

Built Environment Networking – Amanda Griffiths, Director

Amanda is one of the Co-Founder’s of Built Environment Networking – formed almost 10 years ago.

She’ll be hosting a number of the sessions throughout the day, running the days proceedings and managing the interaction between our virtual delegates and the speakers.

YTL Arena Bristol – Andrew Billingham, Managing Director

YTL Developments are audacious placemakers, creating innovative developments throughout the UK. The development group are currently delivering the new 17,080-capacity Bristol Arena on the site of former Filton Airfield. The arena will be the third largest of its kind in the UK and is set to cost around £100m to construct as a part of a wider £2bn investment in the Brabazon neighbourhood. The venue will look to open its door for the first time in 2024.
