Douglas Little; Director of Estates, Glasgow Caledonian UniversityDouglas Little

Douglas Little is Director of Estates at Glasgow Caledonian University with responsibility for GCU’s campuses in Glasgow, London and New York.

Douglas and his team support management in implementing the estates strategy which aims to provide a campus environment that is consistent with one of the UK’s most dynamic universities.

Douglas, who is a member of the Chartered Institute of Builders, delivers the planning, development and management of GCU’s land and buildings.

He led a team on the construction of the award-winning and internationally-acclaimed Saltire Centre and was instrumental in the introduction of a Combined Heat and Power engine (CHP) and district heating supply to help the university reduce its carbon footprint. The CHP energy centre is also used as a teaching and research resource.

This year, Douglas will oversee one of the GCU’s biggest transformations yet, the £30 million Heart of the Campus project which will create state-of-the-art teaching, learning and research facilities and inspiring social spaces.


Ann Allen; Director of Estates & Buildings, University of GlasgowAnn Allen

Ann is the Director of Estates and Buildings at the University of Glasgow.  In her current role the department she leads is responsible for the estates strategy, projects, maintenance and infrastructure including carbon reduction.  Ann has worked in property for over 30 years gaining a wealth of experience with a focus on asset management. She has worked primarily in the private sector both for property companies and in corporate roles. Prior to joining the University, Ann headed up the asset management team at John Lewis.   Ann is also a Trustee of Ethical Property and sits on the Learning Group for Construction Scotland.
