Salford City Council – Paul Dennett, City Mayor

As the portfolio holder for housing in the Greater Manchester Combined Authority cabinet, Paul is across decision making and policy advising on all areas of housing growth in the region. In 2022, Paul announced that social housing would form a major part of Salford’s regeneration strategy going forward with ambitions to upscale the current 280 new registered provider homes being built year on year. He joins the event to update delegates on key residential initiatives for 2024 and beyond.

Greater Manchester Combined Authority – Eamonn Boylan, Chief Executive

As an enabler of regeneration and investment across Greater Manchester’s boroughs, the combined authority are at the forefront of the ‘levelling up’ agenda. At the top of the organisation, Eamonn has prioritised creating healthier, more sustainable and smarter cities as part of their “Places for Everyone” vision. Eamonn will speak about how they are leading the charge in unlocking new regeneration opportunities for investors and developers who share the Combined Authority’s vision and the investment going into creating an integrated transport system in the region through the latest devolution deal.

Manchester City Council – Cllr Bev Craig, Leader

Manchester is thriving and is at the start of its next era of investment and development. Pledging to make the city a more inclusive place to live and work, Bev is leading on the charge to implement the vision she set out in 2022. Bev joins the conference to talk about some of the projects that the council are keen to move forward with in the coming year including Gorton Town Centre regeneration and the 1500 home Wythenshawe vision.

Capital & Centric – Tim Heatley, Co-Founder

Capital & Centric are ‘re-writing the rules on town centre living’ with their latest plans in Bolton. C&C are planning to create “Neighbourhood Bolton” and are bringing forward plans for the first few areas on 6.2 acres of brownfield sites in and around Bradshawgate. Neighbourhood Bolton is set to regenerate the area around the town’s train and bus stations with the aim of being a catalyst that kick-starts wider regeneration of the whole area. Tim is leading on C&C’s ambitions and will join the conference to outline this scheme as well as the positive progress they’ve been making on their schemes in Wigan, Stockport, and Manchester.

Harworth Group – Andrew Pexton, Regional Director for the Northwest

Andrew Pexton has joined Harworth Group to lead their Northwest division, managing a portfolio with the potential to deliver around 10m sq ft industrial space and 7,500 homes over the coming years. Chief amongst Harworth’s current schemes include the 900-home Moss Nook brownfield regeneration scheme in St Helens, and a 1m sq ft logistics project at Wingates in Bolton and Andrew will be on hand to discuss these schemes as well as Harworth’s future ambitions for the region.

Sustrans – Rosslyn Colderley, Director, North of England

Sustrans are the charity that deliver projects to improve walking and cycling infrastructure working in partnership with local authorities, schools and communities across the UK. They have major ambitions to unlock £7 billion of economic benefit, by delivering 5000 more miles of traffic-free paths by 2040. Rosslyn heads up their North of England operation and will be on hand to discuss their growth unlocking plans for Greater Manchester over the coming years.

LCR – Peter Rowe, Senior Development Manager

LCR is collaborating with prominent members of Greater Manchester’s transport and sector to develop the city region’s stations into quality gateways between communities and the railway. The Greater Manchester Stations Alliance is made up of Transport for Greater Manchester, Network Rail, relevant rail franchises and LCR, with the aim of supporting the changing needs of passengers, residents and visitors. With delivery led by LCR, more than 20 sites have been earmarked for development, with the potential to create over 3,000 new homes and Peter will be on hand to discuss these strategic sites for the region as well as updating on the progress of the £1.4bn Mayfield Partnerships scheme near Piccadilly Station.

MIDAS – Joe Manning, Managing Director

MIDAS is the inward investment promotion agency for Manchester, with a strategic aim to secure significant levels of new investment for the city region to create and safeguard jobs. This is achieved through the global business marketing of Manchester key sectors and the provision of an extensive package of free advice and assistance for potential investors and location consultants. Two special purpose vehicles – Manchester China Forum and Manchester India Partnership – sit within MIDAS, helping to strengthen business, culture and tourism relationships between Manchester and the two respective regions. MIDAS has helped hundreds of businesses successfully relocate to or expand in Greater Manchester and as the new Managing Director, Joe will join the conference to discuss his ambitions for MIDAS and bringing more inward investment into the region over the coming years.

Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council – Caroline Simpson, Chief Executive

The council have been working to deliver their exciting £1bn transformation vision to become the ‘Coolest, Greenest’ town in the UK by bringing forward 3,500 new homes and over 1 million square foot of new employment floorspace to be built between now and 2025 – reshaping Stockport as a place to live, work, connect, and visit for the decades to come. Caroline will join the conference to update on the progress of Stockport’s transformational development for the town as well as discussing the council’s role in creating a northern global capital for investment.

Glenbrook – Guy Butler, Co-Founder

Glenbrook are major players in the Greater Manchester BTR market having delivered Manchester’s first purpose build BTR scheme in 2019. Having also built award winning sites in Salford and Castlefield the developer has now got permission to build 639 homes in a £160m scheme as part of Bruntwood and Trafford Council’s Lumina Village project. Elsewhere Glenbrook are also bringing forward major employment schemes in Stockport and Wigan and Guy will be on hand to discuss their activity in Greater Manchester and the growing BTR sector in the region.

 

Kier Property – Henry Martin, Development Director

Kier Property has secured planning consent for their first industrial development in Manchester a 93,000 sq ft nine-unit Trade City scheme on a 4.8-acre site at Elizabeth Street.  Kier Property has developed more the six million sq ft of industrial space across the UK and this is their 55th industrial scheme. Kier Property is also looking to acquire further commercial sites in Manchester having recently completed 11 York Street, the 85,000 sq ft Grade A Office development in Manchester’s CBD. This award-winning scheme was sold to Aviva Life & Pensions and the building has attracted corporate occupiers such as Rolls Royce, AON and Avison Young. Henry will join the conference to discuss their future plans for Greater Manchester and the wider North West.

Kellen Homes – Eleanor Frith, Head of Land and Partnerships

Kellen Homes are leading the way in the realms of creating communities for talent with a 700+ pipeline of homes with community at their heart across Greater Manchester. Schemes include a 240 home development in Gorton which will see them deliver a new sports and community hub, as well as BTR schemes in Bury, Manchester and Salford. Eleanor heads up their land and partnerships operation and will be on hand to discuss their future activity in the region.

Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council – Julian Jackson, Director of Place

Tameside is set to see major transformation over the coming years with Levelling up funding unlocking over 12 sites across the borough. Ashton Market Square will be revitalised to provide a high quality, flexible and modern space which will be suitable for a range of different uses. The future of St Petersfield will see nine development sites offer an accessible, active, and highly connected place to do business, to live and play – including proposals for over 60 new homes, 18,000 sqm commercial/office floor space, 4,500sqm hotel space, and food and drink establishments. Stalybridge will also see its town centre regenerated with approximately £20m in levelling up funding unlocking schemes to upgrade the town’s high street. Julian is leading on these schemes at the council and will be on hand to discuss these development opportunities.

Identity Consult – Alex Atkinson, Director

Identity Consult is a Development Consultancy based across the North with a Local Office in Salford. Alex is working with a number of Local Authorities and Registered Providers across Greater Manchester to deliver both strategic sites and those that have been difficult to unlock. IC specialise in providing expert advice, through ‘added value’ consultancy, to support our clients in delivering their visions for improving infrastructure and creating developments that will have a positive impact.

Keepmoat Homes – Katie Dean, Land and Partnerships Director

Keepmoat Homes are accelerating their UK ambitions, with plans to deliver over 4,000 new quality homes across the UK over the next 12 months. Two thirds of these will be for first time buyers at an average sale price of £150,000. Keepmoat will also deliver quality homes for Registered Providers for affordable rent, and the Private Rental Sector for market rent as part of these ambitions. Katie has recently joined Keepmoat to head up their land and partnerships team in the northwest and will be on hand to discuss their ambitions and activity in Greater Manchester.

Wigan Council – David Proctor, Assistant Director, Planning and Regeneration

Wigan is undergoing major redevelopment which is being driven by the council in partnership with Cityheart – namely the regeneration of Galleries Shopping Centre which will see an array of leisure facilities developed as well as a new hotel and 464 new homes. The £135 million scheme will generate over 600 jobs for the area as well as much needed housing and David will be on hand to discuss this major scheme for Wigan as well as the council’s future regeneration and housing plans.

Shoosmiths – David Mathias, Partner

David is a specialist planning lawyer with over ten years’ experience acting for a range of both public and private sector clients on all aspects of planning and related law in relation to commercial, residential and mixed use developments. David has expertise in advising on the assembly of sites for infrastructure and regeneration projects and has led multi-disciplinary teams through all stages of the planning and infrastructure consents process. Shoosmiths was named law firm of the year at the UKREiiF Awards 2023, EG Awards 2022 and Planning Awards 2022.

Ellandi – Holly Harcus, Development Manager

Ellandi are one of the UK’s most prominent shopping centre and retail park investors and asset managers, with over c.2000 occupiers using their spaces across their UK. Recent years have seen Ellandi invest into Ashton-under-Lyne at the Ladysmith Shopping Centre and Holly will join the conference to discuss their future ambitions in the region and the wider northwest.

National Highways – Simon Emery, Senior Economic Development & Spatial Planning Manager

National Highways are delivering £15 billion of investment on our road network across the UK with significant work scheduled for Greater Manchester to alleviate congestion. This includes the Trans-Pennine upgrade which includes increasing capacity on the A61 and A628 as well as upgrades to the M60 and M62. National Highways also have £128m worth of repairs in the pipeline across the Northwest and Simon will be on hand to discuss these plans as well as future schemes to help boost economic activity.

Cavendish – Sean Fielding, Associate Director

Cavendish are a communications consultancy that operates in some of the most challenging corporate and political arenas. They employ over 100 consultants across 8 offices and their services include planning communications, Government relations, corporate communications, digital engagement and creative services. Their extensive experience throughout the North spans property, energy, infrastructure and FMCG clients.

Network Rail – Hannah Lomas, Programme Director – Transpennine Route Upgrade

Hannah is part of the team leading on the Transpennine Route Upgrade – a multi-billion-pound, transformative, long-term railway infrastructure programme that will improve connectivity in the North which will support economic growth in the North, delivering more than £4bn in social value and a further £4bn in wellbeing for passengers and communities along this pivotal rail artery. Network Rail and Transport for Greater Manchester have also recently formed a partnership to develop the six major stations in Manchester and Salford. The partnership aims to drive transformation in the stations to ensure they’re set for future generations – bringing regeneration and infrastructure together to create a big, connected city with a heavy focus on net zero and sustainability.

Rise Homes – Nigel Rawlings, Chief Executive Officer

Rise Homes have delivered c1000 high quality BTR apartments over the past few years across Greater Manchester and the Midlands and have major plans for growth over the next few years. Rise have already delivered schemes at Moss Side, Manchester and Stockport and Nigel will join the conference to discuss their upcoming schemes in Greater Manchester, including their regen plans in Wigan Town Centre.

Bruntwood SciTech – Sam Darby, Head of Development

The strategic regeneration framework for ID Manchester has recently been put forward to Manchester City Council, outlining the future of the trailblazing £1.7bn city centre district by its joint venture (JV) partners, Bruntwood SciTech and The University of Manchester. The framework sets out the vision for ID Manchester to be recognised internationally as one of the world’s leading applied innovation districts providing unique access to disruptive technologies and ideas. The completed development is set to create over 10,000 new jobs and deliver education, apprenticeship and training opportunities for local communities. The illustrative masterplan totals over 4 million sq ft, with the potential to accommodate over 2 million sq ft of commercial and retail space, and over 1,500 homes. Sam is leading on the proposals for Bruntwood and will join the conference to discuss the vision for the new innovation district.

Great Places Housing – Rhian Stratton, Regeneration Project Director

Great Places, the 25,000-home association, has ambitious plans to deliver c.4500 homes across the northwest as part of their strategic partnership with Homes England over the coming years. In addition, the Manchester-based housing association has recently announced its increase in development activity over the previous year by 16% despite growing “delivery challenges”. Rhian leads on their regenerations projects and will be on hand to discuss their activity across Greater Manchester and their development ambitions across the coming years.
