Monday, 4th October 2021 1145hrs – 1330hrs

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is a hive of development activity, with major projects planned in the realms of housing, employment and logistics. The council have identified 19,000 households in need of new or improved accommodation and a number of exciting projects are in the works, which will help to address this pressing need.

We will be joined by the council and select developers and investors responsible for bringing forward some of the schemes that are set to transform the Borough over the coming years to hear details of their projects, who they are looking to work alongside and how they are contributing towards London’s net-zero goals.

Speakers for this event include:

Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald,
Deputy Leader & Cabinet Member for Economy & Skills
Phil Robins,
Senior Director – Regeneration (South
Professor Jane Harrington University Greenwich Professor Jane Harrington,
Vice-Chancellor
Piers Mulroney,
Strategic Planning and Policy Manager
  • Royal Borough of Greenwich – The borough has identified 19,000 households in need of housing, and are working hard to encourage development to meet this demand. The council have launched ‘Greenwich Builds’, one of the most ambitious Council home-building schemes ever seen in the area. With help from the Mayor of London they have raised £200 million to begin construction and house the families and individuals most in need of housing in the Borough. The council aim to have 750 homes built or under so instruction by 2022 and Denise Scott-McDonald will discuss this ambitious project and how they are one of the most forward thinking London Boroughs.
  • St Modwen – St Modwen are behind the £400 million Woolwich Exchange scheme, which was given approval at the end of May 2021. The project is being brought forward alongside Notting Hill Genesis and will see 801 homes constructed, with work set to begin in 2023. A Grade II listed former covered market will also be turned into a new 5 screen cinema, as well as cafes, bars and restaurants.
  • The University of Greenwich – The University of Greenwich is home to almost 20,000 students and is one of the major economic anchors of the borough. The university’s two Greenwich campuses include a large amount of historic buildings, requiring a large amount of maintenance and development. They have also set an ambitious target of achieving net zero carbon by 2030 and Jane will discuss how they are looking to work with partners to develop a ‘net-zero action plan’, and how this fits into their wider campus development strategy.
  • VU.CITY – Piers Mulroney is the Strategic Planning and Policy Manager within Customers Success at VU.CITY, a smart city software platform that is helping create the best possible city for all. At VU.CITY Piers works extensively with our public and private sector clients throughout the lifecycle of their projects from initial site feasibility through the planning process to best utilise VU.CITY to deliver their objectives.
