UK Parliament – Emma Hardy MP, Hull West and Hessle Former shadow minister Emma Hardy has been a Labour MP since 2017, following the snap election called in the spring of that year. Her first campaign as an elected MP was to secure funding for the A63 Castle Street development and prevent any further delays and to ensure the bridge was built as early as possible. Work eventually started in 2018 and following years of delays Murdoch’s Connection – the 22m bridge linking Hull’s city centre and its waterfront and marina – has opened as a part of the larger £355m Castle Street scheme. ABP Humber – Dafydd Williams, Head of Economic Development It has been reported that Humber Freeport’s economic benefits should be felt across the whole of Humber and East Riding. Handling 17 per cent of the nation’s trade, the Humber ports play a pivotal role as strategic assets, supplying 10 per cent of the nation’s energy, a quarter of the nation’s fuel, almost a third of the national timber supply. This opportunity will act as a catalyst to accelerate growth across the region, with the potential to create 7,000 new jobs for the Humber. Pickering & Ferens Homes – Claire Warren, Chief Executive Pickering and Ferens Homes is a Registered Social Housing Provider, that provides accommodation and services predominantly for residents aged over 60 years old with an emphasis on social value, health and wellbeing. The housing association owns over 1300 properties across located within Kingston-upon-Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire, with value for money being an integral part of their corporate values. PENSANA Plc – Tim George, CEO Pensana Plc, formerly Pensana Rare Earths Plc, is a UK based exploration and development company. The mining company has paved the way for the UK’s first rare earth processing facility at Hull’s Saltend Chemicals Park to create the world’s first fully sustainable magnet metal supply chain to meet the demand from electric vehicles and offshore wind. The 9.2-hectare development is set to cost £90 million and is expected to take 18 months to complete, creating approximately 100 jobs when it is fully operational. Ørsted – Emma Toulson, Lead Stakeholder Relations Advisor Ørsted is a green energy provider that has been ranked as the most sustainable energy company in the world for three years in a row. They develop, construct and operate offshore and onshore wind farms, solar farms and energy storage facilities and bioenergy products to their customers. The green energy provider is currently undergoing construction of Hornsea 1 off the coast of the Humber region, that when completed, will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world, capable of powering well over one million UK homes. The project also includes a reported £1.2 billion deal for vital infrastructure linking Hornsea 1 to the National Grid on the South Humber Bank. National Highways – Tim Gamon, Regional Delivery Director, North East & Yorkshire Tim leads on the major National Highways projects in Yorkshire and the North East of England. These projects include the landmark £1bn A66 upgrade which was recently included in the Government’s Growth Plan list of key infrastructure projects. Tim will give an update on the plan, as well as National Highways wider £135m improvement package. North Lincolnshire Council – Simon Green, Deputy Chief Executive As a key regional stakeholder, North Lincolnshire Council sits just south of the Humber Estuary. The announcement of the Humber freeport has created a great opportunity for economic development across both regions, creating thousands of jobs in North Lincolnshire. The council is also actively expanding its own regional economy with projects like the £4.5m highway scheme that will unlock 60 acres of land for commercial development and enable the building of homes. Redeveloping Scunthorpe town centre is another scheme that has the potential to open up the North Lincolnshire economy, looking to benefit from a huge £10.7m redevelopment fund. North East Lincolnshire Council – Sharon Wroot, Executive Director for Environment, Economy and Resources North East Lincolnshire Council is undergoing a wide array of regeneration and development over the coming decade. The council has a variety of major investment and infrastructure plans throughout the region with projected plans to deliver 9,330 homes by 2030. A third of which could be delivered as a part of the Grimsby West extension, a new village that will see 3,800 new homes built alongside shops, a primary school and a relief road if plans are approved. The South Humber Industrial Investment Programme (SHIIP) is another council-led £42 million project to deliver major infrastructure, industrial sites, create jobs and to stimulate the North East Lincolnshire economy. Keepmoat Homes – Ben Hindley, Senior Land & Partnerships Manager Keepmoat Homes is a top 10 UK home builder and the UK’s largest and only dedicated partnership home builder. Within the Humber region, Keepmoat Homes is partnering with a consortium of developers and Hull City Council to deliver 12,000 new homes. The house builder has also recently confirmed four new lands deals in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire opening up 1,058 new home opportunities worth a reported £166 million. East Riding of Yorkshire Council – Councillor Gary McMaster, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Infrastructure and Housing East Riding of Yorkshire Council is currently in the process of seeking approval for a local plan that will see 20,900 new homes in total up to 2039, approximately 1,100 new homes a year. In the present, the council is working in consultation with Beal Homes on the largest housing development in an East Riding town for decades. The Goole-based, 73-acre development is set to cost around £130m and will see 800 new homes built over the next 12 years. The council have also granted a green light for the development of 380 new homes towards the edge of Pocklington that will feature a 60-bed care home, convenience store, children’s nursery, allotments and a skate park. Northern Rail – Pete Myers, Deputy Director, East Region A year on under new ownership, Northern has spent the last 12 months transforming its fleet with multi-million pound investment in brand new trains and completing the refurbishment of more than 250 trains. Recently Northern has unveiled its plans to deliver further enhancements at its Botanic Gardens train depot in Hull. With plans to construct new buildings, install new equipment and build additional infrastructure, the new facilities will provide more space for the train operators to perform maintenance and repairs in a much more efficient manner.
