APPG for Rail – Lilian Greenwood MP, Vice Chair

Lilian Greenwood was elected to serve as the Labour Member of Parliament for Nottingham South in May 2010 and has held her position ever since. The former Shadow Transport Minister works hard for her constituents, helping secure £60 million of funding to refurbish the city’s train station, an extension to the Nottingham tram network and the upgrading of the A453. She is currently the Vice Chair of the APPG for Rail, Chair of the Transport Safety APPG and a member of the APPG for Women in Transport.

Highways England – Nick Harris, Acting Chief Executive

In one of his first public engagements since taking over at the helm of Highways England, Nick joins us to set out their five-year investment and economic growth strategy while talking about cross-sector collaboration with other transport related organisations and developers.

Northern Trains – Tricia Williams, Chief Operating Officer

Northern plays a crucial role in connecting thousands of people by rail. Whether it’s travelling to work, leisure, education, or anything in between, the railway services are vital to keeping the Northern economy ticking. After recently becoming a state-owned enterprise, the priorities at Northern have shifted from profits, to delivering a quality service for its customers. Over recent years over 260 trains have been refurbished, meaning wherever customers travel along the Northern network they will do so on a new train or one that looks as good as new. Over recent months, working in partnership with Network Rail and the TransPennine Express, Northern has completed £60 million worth of platform extension work, extending more than 120 platforms across the Northern network.

Stagecoach UK – Nick Small, Head of Strategic Development and the Built Environment

Stagecoach Group is one of the largest bus operators in the UK, that plays a fundamental role in providing access to work, education, health, shopping and leisure for people in both rural and urban areas. In January, the transport operator announced a £4m national roll-out of new bridge alert to prevent bridge strikes and provide safer travel for passengers. As well as providing a leading UK transport service, Stagecoach Group are also leading in sustainable growth. Stagecoach is one of only two public transport groups to have received a LSE Green Economy Mark, which is reserved for companies that generate over 50% of their products and services that contribute to the global green economy.

Urban Growth Company – Sue Barrett, Commercial and Contracts Director

As the masterplanners behind readying Solihull for the arrival of HS2 and it’s integration into the wider Midlands transport network, Sue joins us to highlight all the latest news and plans as Urban Growth Company look to bring forward new development and supply chain opportunities.

 

Arden Cross – Ben Gray, Project Director

As one of the country’s most connected locations and home to the HS2 Interchange Station, Arden Cross has launched an ambitious blueprint for a new sustainable business, leisure and residential destination and a leading economic hub. It has been reported that the development has the potential to boost West Midlands economy by over £1bn a year, while supporting 27,000 jobs and creating 3,000 new homes with six million sq ft of employment space. Ben will discuss the project and how it will innovate not just the region, but the nation as a whole.

Heart of the South West LEP – Councillor Andrea Davis, Chair of the Transport Board

The Heart of the South West LEP Transport Board are currently overseeing a number of transport and infrastructure developments across the region, including the £80 million transformation of Plymouth’s railway station into a transport hub with shops and leisure. Other major schemes in the region include the £19.2 million M5 Junction 25 Improvement Scheme as well as the £9 million overhaul of Somerset’s traffic signal system.

Transport for West Midlands – Sandeep Shingadia, Director of Development & Delivery

Transport for West Midlands is part of the West Midlands Combined Authority that is responsible for creating a happier, healthier, and better-connected region. The organisation has committed £5bn up to 2026 to almost 200 schemes, set out in their 10-year delivery plan that aims to meet the needs of a growing population whilst enabling inclusive economic growth for the region. Key projects include the £227m Midland Metro Birmingham City Centre Extension and a further £600m investment in modernising routes between Birmingham New Street to Bromsgrove, Wolverhampton, Coventry and Tamworth. Transport for West Midlands are also leading in clean transport, securing £50m from the DfT to transform Coventry into the UK’s first All Electric Bus City.
