Alex Beedle, Director of Capital Projects & Estates Strategy; University of LiverpoolAlex Beedle Resized

A Capital Projects and Estates Strategy professional with a comprehensive and related private and public sector background and knowledge gained from 33 years’ overall industry experience in the higher education and healthcare sectors and more specifically, Director of Capital Projects and Estates Strategy with the University of Liverpool.

This is a major higher education provider part of the Russell Group of Universities, which consists of a considerable estate campus with a floor area of 400,000m2 and a central Liverpool site area of 100 acres, consisting of 220 properties along with off-site campuses on the Wirral with Leahurst

Veterinary School and Ness Botanical Gardens and farms, as well as campuses in London and China.

Alex’s previous role was very similar as Head of Property and Estates Development at Central Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

He takes responsibility for the delivery of a significant capital programme worth circa £60m per annum, supporting complex business cases and the development of a cohesive, integrated, prioritised and affordable estates strategy.

The University delivers higher educational and research services.  Therefore the estate accommodation reflects the strategic requirements with innovation hubs, seminar and lecture facilities, galleries, diagnostics, workshops, incubators, laboratories, biochemistry, and IT computer and simulation facilities, libraries, breakout and study zones, as well as student accommodation, sports and social facilities.

Stephen Carr, Head of Commercial Strategy & Planning; Peel Ports GroupStephen Carr Resized

Stephen has a career background in sales and global supply chain management within the petrochemical, logistics and port sectors. Today Stephen is the Heads of Commercial Strategy for the Peel Ports Group. Stephen developed transformational strategies to directly target importers and exporters, introducing products and services to add value and remove inefficiencies from their supply chain; including amongst others, port centric multiuser warehousing, a container service along the Manchester Ship Canal and the business case for Liverpool2; Liverpool’s new deep water container terminal.

Mark Povall joined Liverpool Airport in July 2013 and is responsible for driving the development of airline passenger traffic and capacity at Liverpool John Lennon Airport through the addition of new airlines and working with existing carriers. The role also encompasses raising awareness of the airport and the route network within the Airport’s catchment area through Marketing and PR activity.

Mr Povall has seventeen years of experience working in the airport industry, with a major focus on air service development. He joined the airport having most recently worked for Abu Dhabi Airports Company, looking after the sector leading Airline Marketing team, where he spent five years successfully raising the profile of Abu Dhabi within the airline industry.

Prior to this, Mr Povall worked at Brussels Airport in an airline business development function with a specific focus on working with low cost airlines. He has previous experience of working for Liverpool Airport as part of the Commercial team between 1999 and 2006 that helped make the Airport one of the fastest growing airports in the UK at that time.

Mr Povall holds a Masters Degree in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University, and a Bachelors degree in Air Transport Engineering from City University in London.

As Executive Director with the Liverpool City Region LEP, Mark leads on delivering employment, output and productivity growth in its key business sectors including Superport, Advanced Manufacturing, Life Science & Health, Visitor Economy and Low Carbon as well as leading the City Region’s Enterprise, Investment and Growth Hub ambitions for the LEP.

Mark has an extensive track record in delivering business development, growth and inward investment programmes and in the last 10 years these programmes have helped secure over 100 investment projects in the City Region, leading to the creation and safeguarding of over 10,000 local jobs.
