Greater London Authority – Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development Tom Copley became Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development in March 2020 and oversees the Mayor’s two affordable homes programmes, including ‘Building Council Homes for Londoners’ – the first-ever City Hall initiative dedicated to council homebuilding. The GLA has a target of overseeing 79,000 affordable home starts by 2026, tied to £4bn of grant funding and Tom will discuss how they are supporting developers and other stakeholders to meet this target. Square Roots – Barbara Richardson, Managing Director Square Roots is a new ‘for profit’ Registered Provider of affordable housing for rent and shared ownership, launched by residential developer London Square. They are aiming to secure £1.5bn of capital to deliver 3,500 new affordable homes in London over the next six years. They have already committed £266m for 694 new homes in Lewisham, Barnet and Kingston for which parent company London Square will act as developer. Barbara will discuss their plans and how they are looking to build on relationships with local authorities, institutional investors and others to enable people doing essential jobs and providing vital services to be able to afford to live in Greater London. Hines – Jurrien de Koning, Managing Director, Acquisitions Hines is bringing forward the 1.8 acre 18 Blackfriars Road development project in Southwark. This mixed use scheme has a GDV of £1bn and will include residential units alongside office and retail space. They are also moving ahead with flagship schemes including significant residential offerings on Oxford Street and Bond Street. Jurrien de Koning is leading on all residential acquisitions as well as overseeing the management of Hines’ current UK portfolio of approximately £1bn. Countryside Properties – Kate Ives, Strategic Partnerships Director Countryside Partnerships is one of the UK’s leading mixed tenure developers and has major growth plans for London. Their upcoming projects include the major regeneration of Kingston’s Cambridge Road Estate which will see 2,170 new homes created, 45% of which will be affordable. Kate will discuss their work with partners including local authorities and registered providers and plans for further growth in the capital. Related Argent – Tom Goodall, Partner, Head of Residential Related Argent are behind some of London’s most significant regeneration projects and are delivering thousands of homes across the capital. Their Brent Cross project will bring 6,700 new homes as part of a net-zero carbon neighbourhood in North West London. Their mixed use St Pancras Hospital scheme is at a much earlier stage and will see significant homes created alongside workspace, leisure and cultural facilities.
