Countryside Properties have a multitude of development projects in the pipeline with approximately 1,900 homes set to be delivered over the coming years on multiple sites across the South Coast including 1,300 homes in the Chichester District. Brighton & Hove City Council – Max Woodford, Assistant Director of City Development and Regeneration

One of the UK’s most active councils on the development front, Brighton and Hove City council are involved as lead developers or enablers in 9 major schemes. As part of this event Max will set out the council’s build back better ambitions, in particular highlighting their drive towards net zero, their ambitions to deliver 1000 homes in the city, to reimagine their town centre and drive tourism through development.

National Highways – Dean Sporn, Director – Regional Investment Programme, South

National Highways are working hard on their South Coast Regional Investment Programme to reduce congestion and improve connectivity across the region. They are planning several major projects which will alleviate the severe congestion which plagues the region, and remove breaks on increasing trade, investment and connectivity. He will discuss key projects including the £400m Arundel Bypass, several schemes on the M27 totalling over £60m and a £130m smart motorway project on the M3 in Hampshire.

Transport for the South East – Sarah Valentine, Head of Analysis and Appraisal

With a plethora of major investments and area studies taking place across the region, Transport for the South East are integral to driving £200bn of economic growth for the South Coast as well as UK PLC. As part of this session Sarah will outline their headline projects and talk about the wider role transport is playing in pioneering local placemaking ambitions.

Manydown – Andrew Reynolds, Project Director

Manydown will be a thriving new community of up to 3,520 new homes, two new primary schools, land for a new secondary school plus a new 250 acre country park near Basingstoke. The new garden community is set to be delivered in a unique partnership between Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council, as landowners, and Urban&Civic, supported by the Wellcome Trust. Andrew will be on hand to give more details on the latest phases of this massive scheme for the region.

Portsmouth Port – Anisa Koci, Principal Port Project Manager

Last year Anisa and the team at Portsmouth International Port launched their new Port masterplan which will see over £100m of capital projects unleashed in the coming decade. As one of the main gateways to the UK, the Port has exciting plans surrounding decarbonisation, freight and logistics and surrounding urban regeneration. Anisa will be on hand to detail the Port’s exciting plans and ambitions over the coming years.

MODA Living – James R Blakey, Planning Director

James will join the conference to update on Moda Living’s £260m Brighton scheme which will deliver 564 homes for private rent, and 260 homes for later living. James will also update on their collaboration with leading global real estate development and investment group, Osbourne & Co, that will deliver new live and work campuses – combining BtR with life sciences and high-quality commercial space.

Coast to Capital LEP – Julie Kapsalis, Chair

Julie Kapsalis has worked in economic development for over 15 years with a particular focus on enterprise, skills and social inclusion. She is a Board Member at Gatwick Diamond Business and has recently taken up the position of Deputy Principal and Commercial Director at the North East Surrey College of Technology (NESCOT). Julie will join the conference to speak about the LEP’s future plans to drive economic growth in the region including C2C’s investment in local Institutes of Technology and in the University of Chichester’s School of Nursing and Allied Health.

Tellon Capital are bringing forward one of the most significant schemes in Southampton which will see 519 flats and townhouses, plus 2,515sqm of commercial space, developed on a historical site near the centre of the city. Kate will be on hand to update on Basing View, the 65-acre business park situated in the heart of Basingstoke. The redevelopment programme is being brought forward through a close partnership between the council and its development partner, national urban regeneration specialists, Muse Developments. It includes plans to develop in excess of 700,000 square feet on various council-owned land parcels within Basing View amounting to over 15 acres. Additionally, Kate will touch on the Manydown project – a thriving new community of approximately 3,520 new homes, two new primary schools, land for a new secondary school plus a new 250 acre country park near Basingstoke – set to be delivered in a unique partnership between Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Hampshire County Council and Urban&Civic, supported by the Wellcome Trust.

Brighton & Hove City Council – Cllr Samer Bagaeen, Member for Environment, Transport and Sustainability

As well as his role at the council Samer is employed by the RICS in London as the ‘Thought Leadership Relationships Manager’ working with corporates, government and with the NGO sector on sustainability, resilience and the future of the built environment professions. He is Founding Professor of Planning & Urban Resilience at the University of Kent in Canterbury, and before that, he worked with 100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation as Associate Director with the City Relationships team where he delivered cross-cutting urban resilience strategies for Amman, Ramallah, Rome and Byblos. As part of this event Samer will set out the council’s build back better ambitions, in particular highlighting their drive towards net zero, their ambitions to deliver 1000 homes in the city, to reimagine their town centre and drive tourism through development.

Sustrans – Sarah Leeming, Interim Regional Director, South

One of the UK’s leading organisations on developing green infrastructure, Sarah will be on hand on behalf of Sustrans talking about how they are collaborating with a number of developers and local authorities across the South Coast to ensure green walking and cycling infrastructure features heavily across a number of the region’s game changing developments while unveiling her organisation’s future strategy.

Packaged Living – Alexander Bassett, Development Manager

Packaged Living are moving into the South Coast market with the announcement of the acquisition of a 4.8-acre site at Station Square, Southampton with a £200m masterplan GDV. Packaged Living is to undertake a significant mixed-use redevelopment which will comprise of Build-to-Rent units as well as Grade A offices and a hotel. Packaged Living have also recently announced a c250 BTR unit scheme in Bournemouth with an estimated value of £70 million. Alexander is leading on these schemes for Packaged Living and will be on hand to give more intel as well as revealing their future development plans on the South Coast.

Plus X – Olga Hopton, Expansion Director

Workspace provider Plus X is seeking to grow its portfolio of locations to 25 over five years, targeting 1.25m sq ft across the UK. The rollout programme should be of interest to developers and agents promoting existing or pipeline schemes: Plus X said that as well as longer-term development opportunities, it is looking for existing buildings to work within the next six to 18 months. Plus X have been backed by regeneration developer U+I, opening its first space at the developer’s Preston Barracks scheme in Brighton and now working on U+I’s Old Vinyl Factory development in Hayes. Olga will discuss the their future plans for Plus X in Brighton and the South Coast as well as their UK expansion plans.

Willmott Dixon – Richard Sterling, National Head of Land and Development

As Willmott Dixon’s national lead of land and development, Richard leads a team that works with local authorities and developers to accelerate their plans for large scale town centre regeneration. He is currently working with councils including Bristol, Rotherham and Telford and Wrekin to realise their plans for transformational change on the high street. He has been with Willmott Dixon for more than eight years and in that time has grown the company’s development expertise by assembling a team of specialists that provides the capacity to accelerate regeneration over the full development lifestyle, from    initial land identification and asset review through to business plan development, commercial modelling and on site delivery (including lettings, sales and marketing).

BDB Pitmans – Angus Walker, Partner

Angus Walker specialises in acting for clients on nationally significant infrastructure projects, particularly those consented under the Planning Act 2008, with a leading practice in this field. He worked on the first highway, port and airport project promoted under that Act and often argues for the economic benefits of infrastructure projects with appropriate environmental safeguards.

Built Environment Networking – Amanda Griffiths, Director

Amanda is one of the Co-Founder’s of Built Environment Networking – formed almost 10 years ago.

She’ll be hosting throughout the day, running the days proceedings and managing the interaction between our delegates and the speakers.

BDB Pitmans – Hugh Lumby, Consultant

Hugh is a consultant in BDB Pitmans’ real estate team, specialising in all forms of commercial property. He has particular expertise in regeneration and development, having acted on some of the largest regeneration schemes in the country, including central Croydon, Battersea Power Station and the London 2012 Olympics.

Hugh has won numerous awards, including for leading the teams on the Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City shopping centre developments, both of which have been the largest shopping centres in Europe. He has been ranked as a Leading Individual in The Legal 500 and as an Eminent Practitioner in Chambers and Partners UK.

Hugh is a fee paid judge in both the Property Chamber of the First Tier Tribunal and in the Employment Tribunal. He has been a visiting Professor at the University of Law and has lectured on development and regeneration at the University of the Sorbonne. He was also co-chairman of the European Urban Regeneration Council at the Urban Land Institute and is a judge for the International Property Awards.

Hugh is an elected member of both Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council. His key focuses include the broader Hampshire economy, its transport and the regeneration of town centres.
