He grew up in Perth in Scotland, where he attended Perth Academy, before studying Mechanical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. John’s military service has been mostly overseas in engineering, logistic and support services leadership roles; he has spent over 15 years in Germany where he commanded at every level, and has also served in Belgium and the United States, as well as in the Army Headquarters in Andover. He has been privileged to command 4 times on operations: in Bosnia; in Iraq; and twice in Afghanistan. As well as Heriot-Watt University, he has studied at the Joint Services Staff College and the Royal College of Defence Studies, as well as a Defence Technology Masters Degree at Cranfield University. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. He is a keen linguist, being almost native in German, fluent in French, and workable in a number of other European and Middle Eastern languages. He retains a non-executive role in the Army as a Colonel Commandant of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME). Mike Herbert, Regional Director; St Modwen Experience: began his career as a chartered surveyor at Louis Taylor Ltd advising on site planning and sustainability before joining St. Modwen as Development Surveyor and promoted to Regional Director in 1997. Delivered numerous major projects across the North Staffordshire region including Trentham Lakes, Etruria Valley and Festival Park. Key activity in the year: continues to oversee the regeneration and management of the Trentham Estate, a 725 acre tourist and leisure destination centred on the restored Trentham Gardens and attracting over 3m visitors per year. The Gardens were named the UK’s “Garden of the Year” in the annual BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards. Jackie Sadek, Chief Executive; UK Regeneration Jackie Sadek is Chief Executive of UK Regeneration. Jackie has had a long and varied career in regeneration and public service including time at the London Docklands Development Corporation, Tesco, CBRE, Kent Thameside, Park Royal Partnership, BURA, and more.
