Future Development Plans – Tees Valley; Sponsored by Womble Bond Dickinson

Tuesday, 23rd November 2021 1145hrs – 1345hrs

Drawn up back in 2019, the Tees Valley ten-year investment plan was set to drive Teeside, Hartlepool and Darlington forward following a devolution deal with central government. Nearly three-years on, the Tees Valley Region looks towards a prosperous and thriving future, with major schemes and projects set to further drive development and investment throughout the region.

In addition to the wide array of major infrastructure, retail, commercial and residential projects planned or underway, the combined authority is also leading the charge towards net zero, with the region set to become home to the UK’s largest Energy Recovery Facility valued at approximately £2.1bn and will also feature the nation’s first hydrogen transport trials. The region’s recent freeport status has also laid the groundwork for further investment and growth.

This event will bring together public and private sector stakeholders behind the schemes and developments to share insight into their work and engage in a thought leadership discussion on the future of development across the Tees Valley region.

Speakers for this event include:

  • Beyond Housing – are one of the largest registered housing providers across the North East and North Yorkshire, responsible for 15,000 homes throughout the two regions. The housing provider have recently invested £19.5m into a new housing development of 117 high-quality, eco-friendly homes in Stockton-on-Tees. They are also currently working on housing schemes in Redcar and Middlesbrough.
  • Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council – Stockton will see a wave of regeneration and development over the coming decade.  The council are taking an innovative approach to solving the current high street crisis, having recently purchased the vast Castlegate shopping centre in order to demolish the building and replace it with a £21m waterfront development, three times the size of Trafalgar Square. This comes with a £5m Castlegate Centre Country Park that looks to revitalise the banks of the River Tees.
  • Thirteen Group – Thirteen group are a major landlord and housing developer owning and managing over 34,000 homes across Teesside, the North East and Yorkshire. They currently have multiple schemes ongoing and planned within the Tees Valley region, including a 296-home and a 105-home development in Middlesbrough, costing £29.6m and £16m respectively, as well as a 98-home development in Darlington and an 81-home development in Hartlepool.
  • Hartlepool Borough Council – Hartlepool Borough Council are working on a variety of development regeneration schemes that will contribute to levelling up the town and the wider region. Following a £20m investment from the Tees Valley Combined Authority, the Hartlepool Waterfront will be developed into a landmark destination, featuring a new multi-million pound leisure centre. A further £25m from the government’s Town Fund will help to deliver major regeneration and revitalise the town centre.
