Neil McLean – Chairman of the Leeds City Region LEPNeil_McLean_LQ

Neil  recently retired as the Managing Partner of DLA Piper’s office in Leeds, the largest office in EMEA outside of London but is continuing his work with the firm as a Consultant..  DLA Piper is one of the largest law firms in the world, having very successfully developed from its Yorkshire base over the last 15 years to now incorporate 3,700 lawyers in 28 countries and 66 offices around the world. Neil has been a voluble supporter of the regeneration and redevelopment of the region, its commerce and industry and is regularly consulted by the media on commercial and economic matters of interest.  His firm supports charitable and community projects in the region through many organisations. He has historically served on the Leeds Skills Board and is currently a director of the Leeds York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and is Chairman of the Board of Governors of Leeds City College one of the largest F.E colleges in the UK.  Both of these roles give Neil a clear understanding of the needs of the regional economy and the issues and opportunities for identifying and delivering the regional skills identity. Neil is Chair of the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, the largest LEP outside of London.


James Newman – Chairman of the Sheffield City Region LEP

James is the first Chairman of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership Board, established in November 2010. He is also the Chairman of two Public companies, senior Non-Executive Director of two others, Chairman of Finance Yorkshire and a former Master Cutler and is well-known across the City Region’s business community. He has recently retired as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors at Sheffield Hallam University. James is a Yorkshireman born and bred with a career spanning more than 35 years, which includes senior roles with a large number of different industries including manufacturing, services and utilities. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.


James Farrar – Chief Operating Officer of the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding LEP

James is the Chief Operating Officer of the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding LEP. He is kept hugely busy working with their partners and channelling the will of the Board. James joined the team from Yorkshire Forward, where he both led their response to the recession and was responsible for the restructure and delivery of the Business Link service, with record results. A consummate networker, James brings his own business acumen to the role having started and grown his own professional services business.


Lord Haskins of Skidsby – Chairman of the Humber LEP

Lord Haskins is the former chairman of Northern Foods and Express Dairies and has been appointed chairman of the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership.  He is currently a member of the Lords’ Cabinet Office Equality and Reform Group Board, Pro-Chancellor of the Open University and a non-executive Director of JSR Farms Ltd. As a former Board member of Yorkshire Forward Regional Development Agency (1998-2008), he has a wealth of experience in regional development and regeneration. Lord Haskins was appointed by an independent selection panel after an open recruitment process for private sector members of the LEP Board. As well as chairing the LEP’s Board meetings and representing the LEP in public, Lord Haskins will also lead meetings with Ministers and be the LEP’s voice in Whitehall and Parliament.
