Diana Hampson; Director of Estates & Facilities, University of ManchesterDLH Photo 2i

Diana Hampson is a chartered surveyor and has been Director of Estates and Facilities at The University of Manchester since 1997.

During this time Diana has steered the Directorate through the merger with UMIST in 2004 and has successfully delivered the most ambitious capital build programme in the history of UK Higher Education, creating new high quality facilities worth £650 million. The estate for which Diana is responsible comprises over 850,000sq metres of academic, administrative, commercial, and residential accommodation on 320 acres of land, mainly in the City of Manchester but also some locations further afield.

Diana is leading the £1 billion Estates Masterplan which was recently announced by The University of Manchester.

Diana is the north-west representative of the Executive Committee of the Association of University Directors of Estates (AUDE).

Professor John Brooks; Vice Chancellor, Manchester Metropolitan UniversityMMU Vice Chancellor Prof John Brooks.

Since joining Manchester Metropolitan University in 2005 John has initiated a modernisation agenda involving a major capital programme of some £350M to rationalise from seven campuses to two.  He has led the development of the 2020 Vision for the University and has developed the concept of ‘The University for World Class Professionals’.  As a Board member of the North West Development Agency he has taken a particular interest in regeneration, environmental sustainability and higher skills to support economic recovery.  He chairs the Daresbury Science Innovation Campus Board, which operates the world class science facility for the North West.

One of his most exciting challenges is the conceptualisation and development of the new Birley Fields Community Campus for the University.  This new campus will promote strong community engagement in the Faculties of Health and Education, and will set sector leading standards for environmental sustainability aiming to become a ‘Three Zeros’ campus.

Stephen Talboys; Director of Estates & Property Services, University of SalfordStephen Talboys

Stephen has more than 15 years’ experience across a diverse range of strategic roles including asset management, overall estates management covering large-scale capital and operation budgets, master planning, securing public and private sector funding and co-investing. He also hasa keen understanding of planning and development management and proven skills in building commercial revenue streams through joint ventures and forging effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Prior to setting up his own company in 2011, Stephen worked as Director of Regeneration for Bradford’s Urban Regeneration Company (URC) with full responsibility for the £2 billion master planning and development plan for the regeneration of the City Centre. Former positions include that of Project Director for Tees Valley Regeneration, delivering two high-level regeneration projects as part of a multi-agency team and as General Manager for British Waterways, where he worked for seven years. During his role at British Waterways, Stephen spearheaded a major transformation programme to improve performance, customer service, systems and culture through a national re-organisation of the group.

Stephen joined the University on the 29th April, an exciting time, during which there are continuing and significant improvements to the campus, and to the facilities for the students and colleagues.
