The Futuristic Infrastructure Development Conference

This event will look at major infrastructure projects and delve into the innovative solutions and new technologies which are set to be incorporated into them – whilst also looking at new innovative transport solutions for people, freight, products and ofcourse digital services.

As the use of technology and innovation in every-day life increases, what needs to be built to harness and utilise the potential behind smarter transport? With goods being transported to wider locations, and the introduction of electric cars, this event will look at what needs to be developed to transport goods and people around the country in the future.

09:50-11:00 Session One: The Challenges of Delivering Future Infrastructure in the UK

With the increased adoption of electric cars and the potential for autonomous vehicles, what will be the aims behind future infrastructure as a whole?  How will this infrastructure change and integrate into our towns and cities and what will be the challenges in delivering such infrastructure? In this session a panel of experts will discuss these points as well as the role this infrastructure will play in helping the UK reach it’s 2050 Net Zero Carbon target.

Magway – Huw Thomas, Development Director

The revolutionary Magway is proposing an e-commerce delivery system like no other that improves air quality and congestion by removing significant numbers of products, parcels and vans from highways and urban areas. The ‘Hyperloop’ of logistics the plan is to utilise proprietary technology with existing tried and tested solutions to deliver goods more reliably. Huw will share insight into the revolutionary plans, as well as share thought leadership into the direction that freight transport is heading.

 

Energy Systems Catapult – Thalia Skoufa, Transport Practice Manager

Energy Systems Catapult are working hard on multiple projects to change how energy is used across transport and related infrastructure. Thalia will share insight into these plans, including how the UK energy system will be transformed to meet carbon reduction targets and how this will be applied to transport and infrastructure development in the future.

Innovate UK – Ian Meikle, Director of Growth & Clean Infrastructure

Innovate UK are at the forefront of continuing the forwards movement of the construction sector. Ian will share insight into the work they are undertaking, as well as what the country needs to do to be ready for the advancement of technology relating to transport and travel, and the challenges the country will face.

Institute for Future Transport – Andree Woodcock, Project Leader for TInnGO

TInnGo – Transport Innovation Gender Observatory- is a 3-year project which aims to create a paradigm shift in gender sensitive smart mobility across Europe looking at gender issues in mobility, employment and transport education. As part of the CIVITAS initiative to increase the uptake of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans across EU, its specific aim is to increase the capacity of small to medium sized local authorities to develop and implement sustainable, inclusive, integrated and accessible transport strategies, policies, technologies, practices and procedures while advising on intelligent transport systems that recognize the end-to-end travel experiences of all users and freight.

Highways England – Adam Simmons, Director of Future Road Investment Strategies

Adam will talk in depth about the challenges facing our highways in the future, as the norms of transport change. He will also share insight into Highways England’s ‘Future of Transport’ programme, and how highways will adapt over the coming years.

Connected Energy – Matthew Lumsden, CEO

Connected Energy are in the process of developing EV charging infrastructure in challenging locations through the use of their 2nd life EV batteries. Matthew will share insight into their upcoming projects, including why circular economy is so important to these plans, as well as the impact this will have on future transport.
