Water Sector Capital Investment and Infrastructure Plans; Sponsored by Dalcour Maclaren

Friday, 17th September 2021 0945hrs – 1130hrs

Water companies, on average, invest around £8bn a year in improving water security, developing infrastructure, and innovating facilities to maintain that nation’s water supply.

This webinar will explore the way in which water companies are innovating their infrastructure, methods, and technology, from flood prevention to new environmentally friendly capital programmes. We will be joined by some of the key decision makers from across the water sector to share insight into ongoing and future projects and discuss new opportunities as millions of new homes and communities are developed across the UK.

Speakers for this event include:

Sam Catling,
Associate Director, Water Sector Lead
Dr Angela MacOscar,
Head of Innovation
Colin Green,
Director of Commercial and Regulatory Frameworks
Rebecca Frost,
Head of Future Water Services
  • Northumbrian Water Group – Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) are one of the UK’s leading water suppliers, providing water and sewage services to 2.7 million people in the North East and 1.5 million people in the South East of England. The water provider has recently invested £1.3 million in sewer upgrades in Darlington to help protect the environment by reducing the risk of flooding or pollution. Recently NWG has been searching for a contractor to deliver a new £105 million ‘Tees Pipeline’ as well as investing £3.5 million in upgrading wastewater treatment works in County Durham Village.
  • DEFRA – play a key role maintaining the standards of day-to-day life, from the food we eat, to the air we breathe. The public sector organisation also has an important role in upholding the standards of the water services throughout the UK. The department has also worked in consultation with water sector providers and the government to invest £2.6 billion from 2015-2021 in flood and coastal defence projects and has collaborated with water companies to plan a £50 billion investment from 2019-2024 to improve water quality and increase flood and drought resistance.
  • RAPID (Ofwat) – RAPID was formed to help accelerate the development of new water infrastructure and design regulatory frameworks for the future. The team consists of three water regulators: Ofwat, Environment Agency and Drinking Water Inspectorate, aiming to provide a seamless regulatory interface, working with key stakeholders in the industry to promote the development of national water resources infrastructure to benefit water users across the UK. Several strategic water resource projects became the first to pass the initial RAPID assessment back in 2020 including the UK’s largest desalination plant in Hampshire and the £103m Havant Thicket reservoir scheme.
